No. GAA1&2 were released outside Japan only recently. Main series is not over either as AA7 was shown on a leaked roadmap as being in development (now delayed).

There's still a decent amount of demand for another Darkstalkers game. I think people are realizing that a new Darkstalkers game is more of a potential reality than wishful thinking since companies are interested in reviving dead franchises these days. Nintendo is thinking about reviving Advance Wars if Reboot Camp sells well. I'm sure Microsoft wants to bring back old Activision franchises and free up some of the teams working on Call of Duty.

There is interest at Capom in bringing back Darkstalkers but the fighting game division needs to get itself together first. Vampire Savior is one of my favorite video games so I would hope that this franchise is brought back one day. While Darkstalkers isn't near the level of Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, or Resident Evil, some of it's characters like Morrigan are still insanely popular even to this day. It's not a top Capcom IP anymore but at least people still remember the series fondly.

not if they are a publicly traded company they can't. All Sony would have to do is buy up 51 percent of the stocks. Assuming there are that many stocks to obtain. Though even buying just 30 percent of the stock would make them a major shareholder.

The only potential argument is that maybe some first party games don't need to be as aggressive with monetization because platform holders make a lot of money being a storefront for games. Which is why Ubisoft has microtransactions in single player games and Playstation does not.

But even that is a stretch honestly. I think that's more of a case of Sony knowing how to effectively cater to their audience more than Ubisoft. Plenty of other third party games do not monetize single player content and do fine.

But plenty of third party games are taking a long time to make as well. Look at the people waiting for GTAVI. Or that Rocksteady is taking 7 years between Arkham Knight and Suicide Squad. Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo games taking 5+ years to develop isn't usually the norm.

Fyi these budgets are predominantly employee salary which is already time metered. The time + effort you speak of is already factored into the cost.

Quality of the product. There is more incentive in Sony and Nintendo to put out a quality product than say EA or Activision. Cyberpunk is a good example of this, budget is there but the time and effort was questionable.

Pokemon Legends just came out. The effort is there but the time and budget is questionable.

I don't think Cyberpunk failed because of lack of effort, budget or time either. Sometimes games just don't work out.

Believe it or not, Konami actually pulls more revenue than Capcom due to all their stupid, Japanese mobile shit, so may be more expensive to buy out. But Konami has some great IPs that they are letting go to waste.

I may be wrong, but didn't Japanese law prevent Capcom USA from purchasing Capcom JP back in the early 2010s. It's illegal for a foreign entity to purchase a Japanese corporation. Or maybe that was magazine/fan speculation.

Honest answer? I sense desperation from Sony. So they might go to any lengths. They spent the last few years trying to strong arm Marvel and Disney over Spider-Man (much to our benefit). I totally expect them to start scraping the bottom of the barrel.

That doesn't make any sense. Why would desperation cause them to fund niche JRPGs? They would be funding Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and Street Fighter. Basically what Capcom is already doing lol

Even when I think back to when Sony was most desperate in the PS3 era they pivoted away from the weird niche stuff they used to make.

Ugh fuck no. I want my Portable MH too and I don't want Sony killing off the small series. Sony kinda focused hard on big AAA games nowadays and I'm scared they might kill off most stuff that isn't RE/MH/SF.

Yah, that's kind of what I was trying to get at. There's possibly a history of Capcom trying to merge with other companies. It might go through this time because the company trying to acquire them this time is Japanese.
