Yeah. Light had two objectives. Become god of the new world (primary) and improve society by killing off all criminals and the leeches (secondary). He wouldnt have gotten caught if he wasnt confrontational and trying to make a name for himself

Exactly. The dumbass wanted the world to know that someone was killing off the bad guys. Lay low and kill with covid if you dont want to get caught. How can they accuse someone of murder when they were across the country hanging out with friends when someone else contracted and later died of covid?

Many of the users on CE would get caught simply by how they act and feel towards their political rivals... so I could only imagine how crazy they'd get with it. I've never wished death upon anyone, so I wouldn't need to worry about that -- and the fact others in this topic are trying to find alibis is a sign they'll slip up eventually. Me, I'd talk to the Ryuk creature, ask them all about it, and accept it to write down my own name, so I know exactly when and how I'd die, then give it back to the creature. That's it... that's all I'd desire to do with such a power.

Everyone ITT would last 3 years max with a Death Note and that's being very generous. Y'all can believe y'all are somehow different, but you guys already exhibit fragile egos and narcissistic behaviors that Light had. Just on the fact alone y'all think you won't get caught.

I'm not saying you guys will want to dance a parade around on TV, but y'all won't last as long as y'all think. The funny part of it is, you guys are unaware of it and continue to prove my point.

I feel like I just wouldnt get caught.

1. I already completely lack a social media presence, so Internet Detectives wouldnt be able to hunt me down.

2. I'd kill in batches (pick a date, and have everyone I wrote in it die on that same day with completely different causes of death).

3. Getting the names and pictures of you victims is as easy as going down to the local library and using their guest computers/books to find the info you need.

4. I'd be highly cautious in who I picked and when I wrote their names. Never pick people close to you unless you find a VERY plausible cause of death for them (ie: an alcoholic dies from a drunk driving incident).

Honestly, it would be extremely easy to get away with if you just think. Even if the whole world knew the DN existed, they'd still be hard pressed to figure out it was me.

As for @Slaya4 and this whole thing about everyone getting caught; listen buddy, just because you're not smart enough to figure out how easy it would be to get away with this shit doesnt mean others aren't.

It's been years since I watched the anime, so I forgot the rules. I need 10 years to decide, two weeks is too soon. Guess I'll just keep it for however long I'm allowed to, so no one else can use it because just going off this topic, it's a power others don't need to wield.

Getting money for it without getting caught or killed afterwards seems like an extremely difficult thing to do. Didn't the guy who tried have to blackmail an entire country to get the money?

he didnt blackmail. he just proved it was legit and then let the auction ride. and then took a very very small percentage of the total sale, the rest given to hundreds of thousands of others to mask who he is

i doubt most people on this site could come up with a strategy like that. its actually big brain. he only died because the rules changed and he wasnt told

I am sure someone would be petty enough to kill of actors who did shitty movies... i know trump and DeSantis would be gone in a flash probably putin as well. Would I last long with such power??? No, once I would start I would go down a spiral of death. I would only pray i have the strength to not use it. If I ever used it once, I would not stop. I'd be cautious... but I can think of a handful of folks right now that would have very unpleasant ends.

I'm pretty sure you can't control the actions of a third party with the Death Note.

Light wrote that his girlfriend would die from a gunshot wound and that the third party would shoot someone with a gun moments before committing suicide with a gun. Since the two were in close proximity fate resulted in the third party killing his girlfriend and then herself.

So it's theoretically possible if you kill the third party.

Honestly, it's only slightly more elaborate than writing traffic accident. Cause that is still causing a third party (the driver) to kill someone.

Oh wait I'm remembering something similar. There is a rule that the death of a victim cannot lead to the death of other people not written in a notebook. So you can't make a victim say go on a mass shooting. They would just die of a heart attack.

Traffic accidents don't have to involve a third party. You can drive off a ditch or something.

True, but the biker gang leader in episode one and the bus jacker a few episodes later had traffic accident as their cause of death and were both hit by someone driving vehicles.

If it works exactly like it did in the anime, then I'd never get caught, because I already know how it works. It wouldn't just be criminals dying en masse by heart attacks. Light already tested it and showed how far the power extends. He made one guy hijack a bus for crying out loud.

The maximum length you can write ahead is 23 days, anyone who is written in a notebook will die for certainty within 23 days. So if you write brain cancer and specify 23 days in the future, they will die 23 days in the future of brain cancer. But it cannot bend reality beyond killing. If you write brain cancer without specifying a date far enough for the cancer to develop, they will die in 40 seconds from a heart attack. Cause you can't develop and die from cancer in 40 seconds.

I don't see how it would be possible to get caught so long as you didn't deliberately draw any attention to yourself, or start killing anyone close to you.

Especially if your targets are global. Evil world leaders start dropping like flies, nobody is going to be looking into some random CEmen in the middle of Bumfuck, Arkansas. (Though you may cause an international incident that leads to nuclear war, so there's that to worry about lol)

Diseases are actually the one exception to the 23 day rule. If the written cause of death is a disease that takes longer than 23 days to progress, the note will give the disease the time it needs to kill the victim.

But the note can't be used to extend the victim's life past their natural lifespan, so if the disease isn't able to kill them before the time they would've originally died, the disease clause is nullified completely and the victim will just die of a heart attack (hence why writing "dies of old age" doesn't work).

Everyone talking about how they'll track you through the internet and all that need to realize that this is a magic notebook. Even if the CIA or FBI or who the fuck ever actually does realize there's one neckbeard in the middle of fucking nowhere who googled the names of 1000 random criminals all over the planet the same day they all suddenly died, they're not going to pay a lot of attention to it because you're a random neckbeard in the middle of nowhere who has neither the capacity nor the network to pull off that sort of mass assassination plot.
