Cinema has been shuttled off to streaming. Only blockbusters do well in theaters now. How did we get like this, who can say.

Honestly I think a movie theatre are terrible place to watch a movie and we have way better options now. Not sure if others agree

Lots of stuff tbh

Anime feature films. Spy thrillers. Alternate history. Adaptations of novels. Video game movies. Horror movies. You name it, pal. The MCU undeniably broke a few records and won a few hearts over by doing what fans tend to ask for or dream about on a regular basis. Crossovers. Crossovers, crossovers, crossovers. Now that the jig is sort of up now for maybe 10 years. Maybe 5 years. I for one am super interested in seeing how they maintain our attention. NWH was a neat trick. I liked The Eternals, mostly on the basis that we see these kind of ensamble "Ancient Gods In The Modern Era/Gods Are Aliens/Superheroes vs Gods" movies but they tend to be centered around a young, plot-armored protagonist who had no idea he was a god! lol. The Eternals is swell for lacking that little bit, kicks Jon Snow to the curb, and basically gave us a 10,000 perpetual child with a massive Napoleon complex instead.... to to tune of a graphic novel, with a weird recasting, not so subtle Transformers vibes, and tons of sci-fi feats, with DC jokes, a Star Wars joke, treating its main celebrity like a terrifying nut, a whole SLEW of diversity/inclusion that only occupies about a scene a pop, and actually having very little to do with the MCU as a whole. Black Widow was also interesting. Love it or hate it, it needed to happen, and it's cool to think they won't let a single ball drop. Shang-Chi had Abomination, for crying out loud. As a long time watcher, I gotta give em credit.

I mean outside of Disney properties one of the most talked about and recognized film production/distribution companies in recent years is A24, and they do pretty much exclusively artsy indie shit. Moonlight, Minari, The Lighthouse, Lady Bird, Midsommar, Uncut Gems, The Lobster, Hereditary, Enemy, The Witch, It Comes at Night, The Killing of a Sacred Deer thats just my off the top of my head
