But not any of his far better, easy to adapt stories. Revival? From a Buick 8? Duma Key? All so much better

It was part of his deal with the devil. In exchange for being able to push out a dozen books a year, his adaptations will forever be either completely unfaithful to the book or faithful but absolute garbage.

But he's had plenty that were both faithful and fantastic

Fair enough I suppose. I knew about Doctor Sleep but wasn't counting half of IT since the other half isn't. I also heard Carrie was pretty different but I didn't read the book so I can't confirm.

Details are different especially in the final act, but only to make it fit on screen. It's still the same story. Only the ending is majorly different

From a Buick 8
Would make an awful movie. It works in a book format, but it would be terrible in a movie. The story is literally "so like every few years or so, this car vomits out some weird-ass animal and also it maybe killed your dad." A movie couldn't include all of the minutia about the troop life that makes it work.

Stephen King adaptations peaked with The Body, anyway.

Faithful in spirit means "i know It was supoosed to be creepy and it was creepy", as far as I can tell.

The new movies really missed the mark on what It was all about.

Faithful in spirit means it changes details but hits everything I found important about the kids parts, such as the kids individually being tormented and coming against a monster with vague hints of something much greater behind its origin, and Derry being a town corrupted by the influence of IT, with the adults being either predators or enablers. It also told a genuine story about childhood, and was genuinely fun and wholesome at parts, the other part of the book I loved.

Not to mention the absolutely overwhelming amount of blink and you'll miss it references to the book - it was very clear they loved the book and wanted to honor and represent it.
