Sharla certainly hasn't made the most impression on me! Reyn is totally fine but his character is, like...this is the guest party member who I woiid EXPECT to die 5 hours into a game, lol.

Reyn is a top tier 'best friend to the protagonist' character

Sharla is okay

I thought I mentioned this but I guess I forgot, but the draw distance is crazy good in this game. Markers, collectibles, you can see all of that from a mile away.

Reyn is too much of a meat head for my liking. Not a fan of that trope, but the character himself is decent.

Dunban is where it's at.

I'm not usually a fan of the meathead trope either, but Reyn is the ideal meathead imo

Racist against Nopans now because of Zazadan.

If you're touching a wall when you try to jump a gap you lose all momentum on the jump.

This is very abboying while climbing this wall!

I'm going to be honest, I don't think I've ever heard of someone who seems to be overall enjoying the game and also didn't get extremely hyped by Engage the Enemy music sync in dramatic scenes.

I think he's talking about the scene with Unfinished Battle, which is a killer track but maybe a bit too high strung for that scene

last time i checked tier lists (like a decade ago lol) it's basically: player controlled she's the best. ai controlled she's the worst.

also nopon village worst village. that place is an atrocity.

Unfortunately she's also terrible as a support character, so you either have to play as her (which she is actually really good) or bench her.

it's okay Melia makes up for it by being an actual great character

Thank god the game has 90% bench EXP.

I HATE games where benched characters don't gain experience. I should be picking characters based on who I want to play in that situation, not out of some need to leveling process.

Melia is really fun to play as

When you said this, I thought you were at the village. Then you said you met Melia and I realized you weren't. Which meant bad things were going to happen when you got to the village.

Fear.

I can sell like 90% of the gear I pick up, right? I haven't been selling any of the collectibles. Did sell all my level 1 gems though.

This dumbass village is the posterchild for devs letting their aesthetic get in the way of design.

He's actually not as terrible as you'd think from his introduction. XB2's Nopon character is better though IMO.

AI controlled she's definitely the worst. At least AI Shulk still has his Monado Arts in a pinch - AI Melia can't contribute anything apart from Chain Attack multipliers because her Talent Art will always be selectable.

According to a YouTuber who created several popular combat-related videos when Definitive Edition came out, the strongest party member might be (perhaps surprisingly) Reyn.

Late game Reyn puts out absurd amounts of damage in short windows and then goes back to standard tanking until his cooldowns reset. It's simple, but it works!

Yes but she's strong from the beginning too. There's a big learning curve

The trick is to not waste her summons but to build up bolts (and copies) to boost her magic.

My main petpeeve with her is that the plot keeps pulling her away from my party and the exploring exp gain.

Playing as Melia, with Riki in the party, and just melting enemies with all their boosted DoT attacks is my favorite way to play.

I'm warming up to Riki.

He's an old dad which ai did not expect.

Also the first impression of the voice is way worse than it is in continues practice.

Old dad Riki is pretty good, unfortunately mascot character Riki is absolute trash. Very conflicting character.

Riki is terrific and the game IMO avoids the usual pitfalls of a 'funny mascot' character by treating him as a real person. I didn't expect to like him but he's really good.

This is basically true. Thankfully, the game phases out Mascot Riki more and more as it goes along.

Xenoblade kind of drives home how weird it is to give unusual verbal tics and speech patterns to different species in the voice acting era. The Nopons are probably much less annoying to me if I never actually have to hear them speak.

This of course being the main reason why a Chrono Cross remake with VA would be torture.
