My biggest regret is playing the game in English. Some of the accents are fun for a while, but overall the performances are pretty bad. Worse, the biggest offendor are our lead duo....er, trio. Both are pretty unbearable performances, and ESPECIALLY when things have to get loud. Any time where Rex is yelling it's full on Chaos Wars level voice acting. This even effects some characters who are generally pretty good, there are scenes whee Nia is having to yell and she has no emotion whatsoever, or worse the WRONG emotion.

The Xenoblade 2 dub starts to make a lot of sense when you learn that the actors had zero direction and only one take per line.

(At least that's what I've heard on the grapevine. Plus Rex honestly sound better in Smash Ultimate than he did in Xenoblade, which is the opposite of what happened with Shulk)

That would make a lot of sense. A majority of the time it felt like they were just given as script and told to read with no context.

I rewatched those trailers and totally noticed this, lol. I thought they got a person to do an imitation of the original VA.

I'm in this situation now here I'm glad to no longer be blindly hating on Xenoblade anymore and had a good time, but also in a wierd place where I only hated it for superficial reasons and technically none of those reasons actually changed, lol.

VERY curious what the setting could possibly be here. The two universes at war? An entirely new universe that they're fighting over? Both are probably way off base but we don't have much to go on now.

I think that as far as marketing goes, it's smart to pretend that you're not supposed to know who those characters are. Fans will pick up on it regardless, while newcomers won't be turned away by feeling like they're missing out on background lore.

I can't imagine how flat the Zanza stuff at the end lands in XB2 if you haven't played the first game.

You have good reason to look forward to Torna! Really the only thing bad about it is by the time it's done you'll wish even more that XB2 could have been better than it was.

Oh, I didn't talk about the worst thing: Blade abilities. The blade management system is probably what ruined the game for me more than anything else. It is SOOOOOO cumbersome. Swapping out blades is such a pain, especially when you're tying to unlock a high level point. I don't think I can out into words how much I disliked having to juggle this stuff.

Loosing the yellow brick road pathingalso hurts a LOT.

Really, QoL stuff hurt pretty bad. I am curious how much of that wasn't in the original version of XB1, though.

The Zanza stuff makes answering the question "Do I need to play Xenoblade 1 first?" awkward. It technically isn't actually mandatory but one does miss out on important stuff at the end.

And yeah XB3 trailer definitely different when you've got the full story. Even when you earlier asked if knowing XB2 has catgirls is a spoiler I kinda thought about how to answer it because you can insinuate a lot about how the worlds are actually connected.

Speaking of things hitting a bit different, that was me for the ending of Xenoblade Definitive Edition after playing XB2, with the last lines of dialogue Shulk saying "one day I hope I can meet them all, the people of this endless world"

I rag on Xenoblade 2 but I'll always be impressed at what they created on a shoestring team + budget. Hopefully they're allowed to stretch their wings now with 3, but it's already been confirmed they made Definitive Edition + Breath of the Wild 2 at the same time so I guess that's just how they do things.

This was the second time they got to end a Nintendo Direct with Xenoblade, and now Nintendo owns them, so one would hope this is gonna have a LOT more to work with.

I can't believe I'm of the mindset now that I hope to see more Xenoblade stuff in the next Nintendo direct. It was only recently that that was the top of the list of things I was hoping I WOULDN'T see.

And all it took was them putting out a trailer with a couple cute girl in cool outfits.

Back in my day (early patch versions) one couldn't even search for Blades by ability...

This explains a lot. That was too good to be something they actually took out.

Monolith has pumped up their staff a lot in recent years. They've also been getting better at managing Switch performance with each game they put out on it, so I'm feeling pretty good about 3.

The map tells you exactly where you need to go for any quest and the fastest way there, even the closest path to the mobs. It takes the entire environment into consideration.

XB2 was made by a 50-person team in 2 years. It's crazy impressive what they made considering!

Also I might've said this before, but the Blade quests are the best content in XB2. Can't imagine being that into the game without doing them (unlocking them can be pretty time consuming, but I loved doing it for whatever reason).

The only Blade Quest I started was the little electric girl with the hammer.

I...cant even imagine wanting to go level up affinities to unlock them, it's just not how I play games. I don't think there's much of any chance I'm going to go back and do that stuff.

Building affinity is pretty easy. You buy a bunch of pouch items and spam them until the Blade's affinity is S+. It doesn't really take that long either. Most of the other affinity chart nodes that are in the way can be completed by sending the Blade out with Ursula on some ~10min missions a few times.

One big exception is the Blade who wants you to go around to world beating up on Unique Monsters. No way around that one.

The other big exception is Ursula who wants you to complete an absurdly large number of Merc Missions to progess her story quest.

You know what fuck it.

I have a few hours a day where I don't have access to my PS5 but it's still free time...I'm breaking my no handheld mode rule and gonna start Torna. Will make a new topic when I do. Can't believe this made it to 500 nearly.

I just hope I'm not totally ruined for the Xenoblade 1 expansiom after.

This is tough. I liked XB1's "shit is going down" track more, but XB2's was still good and was used more appropriately. Overall though....I think I liked XB2's music more? It's a close call. The music in Tantal is probably what tips it, especially the town track.

the field theme that always comes to mind first is always Uraya

Uraya to me is the best environment from the game. I think XBC2 also has more good tracks, but XBC1 has a couple of standouts that are incredibly good. I listen to XBC2 a lot more often while working tho
