As usual I can't exactly show most of what I make on GameFAQs, lol. But I've been experimenting with more realistic painting styles lately, rather than the cel-shaded work I normally do. This is just an ordinary cloth. I think the shading came out quite well; though the final result is a bit hazy and indistinct.

I'll join in when I can. Havent been able to draw because I've been busy recently so I didnt make the new topic. I'll update here now and then!

Just gonna bump with some old stuff from last year. Im working on touching up my last drawing so hopefully I see a difference.

This guy is Xerol. A demon that tricked my D&D party into performing a ritual to turn a guy into a god. Also he runs a casino in the 9 hells.

Started to draw the third warrior of light in my piece. Using some references online for it since his armour is pretty complicated for me.

I appreciate being tagged, havent posted cause I havent really done much besides a bit of doodling to keep a bit sharp. Was a bit messy but Ive started to bring it back.

How good were you at drawing before you got into painting? My drawing level is now "okay", but the few times I've tried painting, it was...an experience. I know most paintings start with drawings, but the process seems completely different.

uhhh id say pretty decent. painting is weird tho its so much different so i dont know if you can say that drawing skills play that much of a role in painting at all tbh

Anyone have any ideas what I should tryhard on? I feel like every so often there's something I want to draw, and I can usually get myself to do it that day. Haven't really had an idea that's made me want to work on it.

Finally started on the third Warrior of Light. I think I made his eyes too intense, wanted to make them more solemn.

Gonna finish colouring him.

I'd say that looks solemn enough, tbh. Super detailed armor like that is too much for me as is.

So since I haven't done a digital piece in a bit, I tried a newish process. It sacrificed detail, but I could probably try to get some in, if I did another attempt. I just didn't really know what the rest of his body is supposed to look like. I took Fable's advice and did their character (in post 4). I kinda forgot the hat was there >_>. The extreme angle faces are a (one of many) weakness of mine, and I think his chest isn't as pushed out as it should be with that pose.

Yo i like it but I spent a LOT longer than I care to admit thinking you rule 63'd my character from post lmao

Love it so far. I really need to get myself together and at least bust out a few pages of my comic. I feel like if I do that it'll motivate me to do at least a page or more a week.

Thank you!! And yes, you should try drawing a few pages, even if it's some storyboard sketches. Most important is to not force yourself or you might lose interest in doing so :)

My main problem is going to be learning good layout for the type of comic I'm wanting to do. I'm taking inspiration from other comics and mangas but I really should watch a video or something.

Same here, i had books of some 'how to' draw mangas and stuff but, i mainly stay inspired by either dragonball or one piece manga. First thing i learned right from the get go, was to make the speech bubbles rather bigger as necessary than smaller ones lol

Hopefully procreate has premade speech bubbles. I saw they did an update for comic purposes. That's good advice though since a lot of my non-action segments is planned to be dialogue-heavy character development.

I was working on something else, but I suddenly felt like doing this. Obviously not a complete work, but I think it looks acceptable enough for the amount of effort put in. I really need to do a full project, it's easy to get caught in the trap of "kinda decent looking" sketch. But a full project is what tests your skills and tells you what you need to learn. Not sure if I'll work on this one anymore or not.

What this did remind me though, is that my eye placement is still garbage.

I disagree. I think the eye placement is fine on this one. It looks great and your stuff has shown so much improvement since the beginning.

@PerseusRad Yeah, the eye placement here is just fine (that in particular is something I obsess about constantly in my own work). All I can see personally is one incredibly-tiny nitpick that I guarantee no one else would notice (I would make the bottom line of her right eye a more rounded downward bow to better match the leading left eye). And I only bring up that nitpick so that you don't think I'm just humoring you.

And of course one of the benefits of drawing big-tittied anime girls is that the eyes are only the second feature the viewer's own eyes will be drawn to ;-)

Alrighty here's my 1 year progress with a redraw of the 1st character appearing in my webcomic. I feel like I've improved a bit.
