And the Twitter post for it it was retweeted by both Atlus Japan and Atlus West.

This has to be a new game, because this Aion stuff isn't anything like what was in the original Soul Hackers. Talk about a left-field announcement (of an announcement), though; didn't think Atlus would make a Soul Hackers sequel of all things.

I'm gonna temper my expectations and brace myself for a port/remake, but holy shit, if we get a new one I will be so hyped.

I feel like Soul Hackers as an aesthetic has had its time, but maybe they have some new ideas.

At the end of the day, it was just straight SMT with a couple kinks, right? I didn't even remember Loyalty being a thing until I looked it up.

The original Devil Summoner series was basically demons being transplanted into a modern-day cyberpunk, non-apocalyptic setting and did have a bit more of a story- and character-focus than the mainline series (even if the mainline games back then did have a lot of story-focus), and a key gameplay mechanic of them was the Loyalty mechanic for demons.

ill play it if it goes the SMTV route and kicks random encounters

Yeah, that's definitely new. There's nothing like any of that in the original Soul Hackers, and the game also takes place completely at night.

Was just going through the Soul Hackers compendium and was reminded that there are a TON of demons in that game that haven't made the transition to 3D.

Like does anyone remember Gally Trot, La Llorona, and Turbo Granny? I'd forgotten.

EDIT: Oh and we definitely need to bring back the Frost Rangers.

Its taken Atlus so fucking long to start releasing new games for Switch and other new systems(no persona spinoffs don't count). SMTV is really the only notable one. Thank God we are getting new stuff thay isn't just old ports and persona spinoffs.

Now give me some goddamn Etrian Odyssey.

Lucifrost too. Wasn't the soul Hackers remake his first game?(aside from that demikids game)

Yeah, not just Soul Hackers, but the original Devil Summoner also had a bunch of funky demons that have rarely if ever shown up again, some of them not even in Soul Hackers.

...That said, I fear that this game--assuming that it's in 3D (which it's likely to be)--it'll just recycle most of the same demons from Persona 5 and SMT5.
