Cubed. I only like crushed ice if I plan on eating the ice.

I've been looking at this same question for a while now, since I can't seem to find any studies, and there are a few different schools of thought on the subject, all of which seem to be true to one degree or another. When I'm ordering a drink, I generally order it over ice, then stir in some crushed ice (usually two cups worth) to cool it down.

When I have my friends over for dinner, I've typically put the crushed ice in the sink while the glasses are being filled, and when it's time to serve the drinks, I'm just gonna dump all the crushed ice in one pitcher and go from there. My other option is to buy ice cubes in a big block, put them in a bowl of crushed ice, then just pour the drinks from the tap (but be careful to watch for the pressure) and add crushed ice at the last minute.

For that same reason, I don't use a blender. I know for a fact that there are several different types of ice being used to make ice cubes, and some are more effective than others. So for you to know how to use crushed ice to make the best ice cubes possible, you'll need to know what type of ice it is. The key is that you need to use crushed ice with ice cube trays or ice bucket molds that are designed for use with your chosen type of ice. To figure out which is which, and to find out which one is the best, you really need to do your own research, sorry.

I don't. Fast food places fill the cup with ice and only like 1/5 of the cup is left for the drink. Typically I order to go and eat at home, so I can add my own ice if the drink isn't cold enough. It usually is, though.

crushed ice is great in water, or anything that wont be hurt with some dilution, since it cools down the drink much quicker. if its something you dont want to dilute though use ice cubes.
