Ruby Sapphire:
Get all the hoenn pokemon by trading between these games. Reset for starters, pick different fossils, etc.

FireRed LeafGreen:
Get all the Gen 1 and SOME Gen 2 pokemon here, BUT:
you can only get 1 legendary Johto dog per game and it depends on what starter you chose. So that means you have to beat the game 3 times with different starters to get everything

Also, if the legendary dog roars you, the game glitches and you can't catch it anymore because they're put in a state where they immediately run away trolololololol

Emerald:
Only useful for getting the Johto starters and the rest of the johto pokemon from a post-game safari zone, BUT you can only get 1 johto starter per save file after you complete the Regional Dex in post game, so that requires you to beat this game 3 times to get all 3 here.

Mew, Deoxys, Celebi, are all event pokemon, so if you don't have the events, you're just fucked lol
Jirachi is only available if you got the bonus disc with Pokemon Box on gamecube.

As for Ho-oh and Lugia, if you missed the event, you must beat Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD and trade them over.

Don't forget, you still need to trade every pokemon between games. One. At. A. Time. Multiple Times.

I managed to do it as a kid by owning multiple gameboys, having all the games and having a lot of time on my hands. Getting all three Johto starters felt pretty rewarding NGL.

Keep in mind Celebi was never released in gen 3 outside of Japan and America so for everywhere else like Europe and Australia they're completely fucked.

If you've already got Colosseum and XD, you can get all the legendary dogs from the former and all the Johto starters from the latter. It's tedious (iirc in XD you have to beat a 100-match tourney three times for the Johto starters), but a hell of a lot less so than playing FR / LG three times over and Emerald three times over.

you can now get mew and jirachi just by owning 3 games

An npc in BDSP gives you Mew if you have save data for Lets Go Pikachu or Eevee

A 2nd npc hands you Jirachi for having save data from sword or shield

You can get Celebi in the virtual console version of Crystal

Even begging for dupes and cheated pokes was not an easy task on the pokemon boards.
