As a seasoned gamer, I'm all about playing on whatever is considered 'hard,' or the second hardest difficulty, if there are 4+ difficulties, during my first playthrough. That way I can experience the novelty of the game that comes during the first playthrough, while maintaining a state of flow and enjoyment, not frustration.

I almost always play a game on the default/normal difficulty because I feel that's typically the difficulty the devs intend for you to familiarize yourself with the (base) game play mechanics.

Harder difficulties are/should be intended for you to tackle after gaining competence or mastery in the game play mechanics.

Its why difficulties that only add health suck.

Veteran on Prime 2 on GC totally broke my immersion of the game, because the Jump Guardian boss went from a 5ish minute fight to 20 minutes of the same cycle of boss fight phases repeating.

I start games that I assume aren't challenging on hard. This tactic hasn't failed me yet, and for games I really like that I end up playing on Normal I could just change the difficulty on a future playthrough.

As a real gamer, so Very Hard isn't frustrating.

You are supposed to play a game on Hard then on Very Hard. That will give you the maximum amount of enjoyment

I pretty much always play on Normal first, expect for KH games at this point.
