Current Events > For 5 days, I have smelt phantom smoke.

Its really freaking me out. I cant sleep because of it as I'm constantly checking for smoke and prevent a fire. It always happens at the later part of my night (say around 10pm, and I go to bed at 6am).

Im driving my wife nuts by constantly checking wires, but shes trying to be supportive. My mind is playing tricks on me as I think the room is smokey when my eyes are tired.

3 weeks ago my wife almost started a fire with a heat lamp and I caught it quick. Just light smoke in the living room no big deal. I know its not the smell stuck in the room because I sprayed fabreeze to the point of dripping off the curtains on the third day of this.

So its either mentally on my mind and residual from that, the smell is stuck in my sinuses from being around smokers at work (I dont smoke), I'm fucked up from covid last month, or I have a brain tumor. Or Demons are coming to get me.

Its just weird that this started a week ago suddenly. I always break with my coworkers and all that other was weeks to a month ago.

What should I do CE? I cant live like this

It's traumatic memory, basically, you summed it up just right in the TC. It's a phantom smell. It'll continue for awhile. I've dealt with it before which is why I kind of joked about it lol. It sucks dude but you're basically experiencing the symptoms of a nightmare while awake. You're worried about what could have happened when you weren't there and the scent has stuck with you. Time should heal it but if you're still experiencing it a few weeks you may have developed a new phobia and may need to see a therapist for PTSD.

Possibly a sinus infection or several other things that can vary from "you're sick" to "you really needed to see a doctor already"

Sounds like a trauma/psychological thing from the fear of the fire that nearly happened.

Or demons.

parosmia is something you can get after having covid. it distorts your sense of smell.

my mom had the literal same problem you did, the smell of smoke at night. and it popped up after her having covid.

Then again you are recovering from Covid which I have no frame of reference of. I'd see a physician and explain the situation just in case your sinuses are damaged because they'll help fix it. I missed that part.

Check the pilot light on your stove maybe?
