I'm not sure how serious I should take that article, it definitely doesn't scream impartial

Obviously I don't think Trans kids should be discriminated against but the writer seems too emotionally attached to this and makes me question if stuff is exaggerated

I would not say it's exaggerated, but it's definitely exasperated.

It's a press release from the Human Rights Council; it's not meant to be comprehensive and in depth look at all sides to the issue; it's meant to raise alarm bells.

Though on that note, the push from organizations like NewsCorp for a "fair and balanced" "both sides" look at an issue has become a cover to give credence to indefensible positions.

To be fair, back when I was in school everyone on a sports team had to have their balls fondled.

...because a full physical was required before the school would clear you for any sort of sports activity, which included a hernia check. So you either needed to get checked by a personal doctor or the school nurse. If you didn't want a stranger cupping your coin purse, you weren't going to play, period.

Not that most people on PotD would be aware of that sort of thing, because most people here were the kids getting stuffed into lockers, not the people on the sports teams.

It's full on propagandistic. It's very telling that as far as I can tell they don't actually cite the ruling in question, or provide a link to read it for yourself, and instead just rant about it in the most sensationalistic and inflammatory way they can. It's emotion-fueled rhetoric designed to manipulate you into seeing the issue the same way they do, rather than allowing you to make your own decisions based on the actual facts.

It's not impartial reporting or news, it's an op ed hit piece.

The sad part is, from what I can parse from the actual ruling, it doesn't even seem all that discriminatory (I think it literally boils down to "If you're trans, you have to inform the school and seek approval to be classified as your chosen gender rather than your official birth gender"). Which is perfectly understandable because otherwise you're absolutely opening the door to potential for unfair competition (because there are absolutely different degrees of transitioning, and people can always potentially lie about their situation).

Though I may be interpreting it wrong, because I'm trying to break down all the obligatory legalese of the ruling. Which is why it would have been nice if the article posted had actually tried to objectively sum up what the bill actually says in terms a layperson can understand rather than ranting about how everyone involved is literally worse than Hitler and how this is apparently the worst thing that's ever happened in the history of the human race.

The bill shields people who performs these inspections of children's bodies from being sued. They're not exactly being subtle about the fact that they know what this bill will do.

You're as hyperbolic as the group's response.

the Human Rights Council

And, on top of everything else, you're misrepresenting the source. The site has ZERO connection to the UN. And in fact, it seems like it's attempting brand confusion.

And, rather than being focused on human rights broadly, it mentions itself as being specific to LGBTQ, meaning the name is misleading as well.

Doubtful. Even thirty years ago, kids were too fat to stuff into lockers.

I always wondered if it was just a time thing, or an area thing. I was on a team in high school, and never had to have that done. Not did my teammates, nor any players on any of the teams in school. Whether they were suppose to or not, Idk. But I heard that it didnt happen at any of the schools we knew people in

Something else that was weird was that it didnt happen when I was at MEPS, either. Nor the prostate exam. And I was fine that neither happened. I can only really remember one time when a doctor had to do something with my balls, and it was my most recent physical I had, which I needed to keep my CDL. And it didnt happen the first time I got it And I still havent had a prostate exam

If a position can gain credence, that by definition is defensible.

Yeah, the problem with doing that is that, in case you haven't noticed, politics is beyond parody at this point.

Fuckers screaming about M&M design changes constituting the destruction of civilization even as they pass laws in order to promote the assault of children's bodies and the forced removal of children from homes facilitated by Nazi-era snitch laws.

Lots of things gain credence without being logically defensible. A good many people don't apply logic when deciding how credible something is. It's kind of a problem.

I can't help but notice that you've pointedly avoided actually expressing an opinion on the matter itself. Why might that be?
