Lol I feel the same way. Have only played Dark Souls and it frustrates me too much to be enjoyable.

I want to try it. But I've never beaten a Souls game. I heard this one might be easier though in some ways

no elden ring is easier than sekiro

i completely bounced off of sekiro but ive had a ton of fun with every DS, bloodborne, and am having fun with elden ring.

sekiro is very different. some ideas have been taken from it and put in ER, but the core gameplay isnt the same

I haven't played any other Souls games, but everyone seems to be saying ER is easier. There are a few mechanics that make it seem that way, the most obvious being that it's open world. If a boss is too hard, you can just go somewhere else.

You lose all of your runes, the currency you use for both buying things and leveling up. You can retrieve them by going to the spot where you died and it's not really a big deal if you do lose them so long as you don't try and hoard a shitload of them.

I figured that was the case, but I haven't played any of 'em and didn't want to say one way or another.

I can't speak for all the Soulslikes out there. But I've spent some time in all these games

Dark Souls
Dark Souls 2
Dark Souls 3
Demon's Souls
Bloodborne

And they all have that mechanic

I couldnt beat that giant dude on the stairs in sekiro. (Like 30 mins into the game lol)
For elden ring i beat the 4 main bosses so far and a couple side bosses.

I just use magic so it a lot easier =]

Does it have a mechanic similar to the dark souls one where you're like dead looking but if you use an item you're not dead looking or hollow or husk or whatever? I didn't like that.

Hollowing or whatever it's called. No, they got rid of it for Elden Ring.

I've played and beaten DS 2, 3, and Demons Souls remake. I've gotten near the end of Bloodborne and quit playing. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. With that said, the combat feels about the same as the other games for me. What they did that makes it feel a little easier is introduce checkpoints between the bonfires so a death isn't AS big a deal as it was in the other games. And being able to leave what's giving you troubles to go roam the open world and gain some levels is nice.

If you like this type of game and can beat them / don't get frustrated when trying a boss a bunch before finally getting it then yeah, buy this. IF you hate the combat system of the regular games there is no reason to play this.

You're not missing much. It's Souls with a dash of Sekiro, dropped into a Breath of the Wild world.

It's really not that original or innovative.

Eh its not about originality at this point. Most ideas have been fleshed out; several times over lol.

Just looking for fun gameplay and exploration.

I think Fallen Order was the only souls-like to break that mold

Thanks for the post. In theory I love the gameplay, I think I just need more patience. I might give ER a try in the future, it might have enough changes for me to enjoy it.

I think some of the bosses are harder than Sekiro bosses, but this game allows you to summon co-operators to help, while Sekiro did not.

for the most part, the bosses are the hard parts. exploration has challenges and normal mobs can toss your shit around, but i've never been stuck for upwards of an hour trying to get past a dungeon or anything.
