That was determined to be a fucking lie lmao

They are objectively worse on the Switch. I didn't mind them on the Wii but good God they're bad on the Switch.

Can't you play the game without motion controls?

I'm pretty sure that was a big change from the Wii and Wii U version.

Yeah but those are even more awkward

Diagonal slashes only register about 50% of the time with these motion controls. On the Wii, it was more like 80% of them time. That's a very noticeable difference.

The problem was the game was originally designed around the motion controls, and the analog stick is not a great replacement for them. If they had gone down the Metal Gear Rising route and had you move the analog stick to select your slash angle and press a button to slash it would have been way easier. Moving the analog stick in the direction of the slash is just awkward.

no it's jus diagonal slashes are hard to do
because you have to orient the controller in the same direction while slashing which is impossible to do
I agree the switch motion controls aren't nearly as good

mgsr makes me want to throw a controller at the wall sometimes
it' doesn't feel like you're slashing a sword
i wanted them to make it so you slash in the opposite direction first so you get a nice full swing

I remember the original was damn near impossible to play laying on a sofa. Traded it to gamestop after having it like two or three days.

Idk. They worked well for me. I didnt have many problems And most of the problems were at the beginning when I was learning the controls again But they are still be than the Wii for me. That said, I didnt have much problems with the Wii motion controls, either

No. You just have to make sure youre going diagonal. I got mine like 90% of the time. It comes down to how you move it. Its much harder to move pretty fast to try to get slashes. But if you practice a bit, it shouldnt be that hard. Sometimes, it comes down to make a smoother motion

I do agree that the game without motion controls is awkward, though

I got the collector's edition on Wii. Still have the gold wii-mote unused in a box. Zelda's my 2nd favorite series (1st is Suikoden) and I fell for the hype.
Game sucked then and still sucks now.
Skyward Sword is the reason I will never preorder a Zelda game ever again. I am usually careful about preordering and limit it to companies/brands I trust, since you're giving them the money before having concrete evidence the game will be good. Zelda used to be on that short list, and it no longer is.
It's amazing how much propaganda about the motion controls being "good" has managed to sucker people into buying the game, even a decade later.

I gotta agree with you TC.

I still have my copy of Skyward on Wii... and bounced back and forth to compare the two. It's absolutely insane that - on the Wii version - I could calibrate once and just be good for the session. On the Switch version, calibration is simpler but much, MUCH more frequent. I was over that in about two hours, so I switched to button controls and didn't look back.

Button controls have their own issues but it is vastly superior. I expected to hate analog flicking for the sword and... that aspect actually worked wonderfully. I've had no problems flicking and R3'ing for the sword. Bomb controls were another story. They eventually made sense, but it took much longer than it should have for throwing/rolling bombs to make sense. Unfortunately, Skyward Sword is still Skyward Sword... and having better controls didn't stop ~7 hours of admittedly awesome dungeons from being submerged in 38 hours of stupid, tedious, meaningless filler bullshit content.

The non motion controls are god awful on the Switch version.
Except when you're flying on the bird, those controls are actually really good.
Flying the bird using motion controls makes you look like you're flying drunk.

I just wish we could mix and match the controls : /
