So many electronics we own in our homes, cars, and phones could harness the power of solar energy, but weve only had glimpses of what it can do for the rich with their roofing and rarely with phones.

Yeah but carrying around a solar panel to power your phone sounds like a pain in the ass.

Then new phones would cost even more, and even then unless you live in some very specific parts of the country consistently charging your phone during the day will be nigh impossible.

Itd be a back up battery as an option for when youre outside. Pretty simple concept to understand lol. New phones shouldnt cost more since itd just be another new update to current phones.

The powered most regular calculators in the 90s with solar. It wouldn't be hard to add the same concept to a phone. Even a bright room could power your calculator.

Portable batterys are infinitely more reliable and doesn't rely on the weather. You also failed to address the problem of poor weather.

Idk if you live on Cali or something but it's not sunny year round in most places.

Constant sunlight isnt always needed to use a solar battery lol.

I kinda think that government should just mandate that all future roofing must incorporate solar power and the additional cost will come back to you from the government. Same should happen with getting electric cars.

Solar power for housing is popular in my area but companies have gotten way to aggressive with predatory practices and it turned me off from the whole process.

They're now heavily incentivized to push leasing panels on you instead of buying them, but even if you wanted to buy them, the technology is evolving so quickly that your roof would be horribly out of date within a couple of years.

Then there is the insurance nightmare of the fact that solar roofing companies will ensure damage to your roof, but expect your homeowners to pay for any internal damage due to something like a leak. Homeowners insurance meanwhile wants nothing to do with solar because they have to drill through your roof to install a system in the first place, meaning your roof is more or less permanently damaged and it opens up a bunch of spots where leaking could occur.

But even if you can get over ruining your roof to put on a bunch of questionably insured panels that will be grossly out of date in a few years that you'll either be stuck owning or stuck with a 15-year lease you would have to transfer to a new owner... That only gets you power during the day. You have to pay an extra 10 grand or so to have a storage battery installed so that any of that solar power your generating can be used at night.

And all of this so that you can have a slightly reduced power bill. I say slightly reduced because the amount you have to pay per month to pay off the panels compared to the amount you save on using less electricity during the day practically evens out. If you lease it's even worse because the solar company takes whatever money would have been made from selling energy back onto the grid.

I want to support solar for homeowners, I really do, but at least around me the entire industry feels like a giant door-to-door scam.

Yeah the idea completely out weighs the reality of the situation which is why its sad solar energy isnt normalized enough to not be just for the wealthy.
