This is kinda the first major war since the explosion of the social media age. Yes Afghanistan, but major combat for that was 15 years ago?

It kinda feels like the cancel culture type reaction of the rest of the world against Russia seems to be actually doing something? Yeah Putin is not stopping and whatnot, but overall Putin has been made to look like a chump and Zelensky and Ukraine have looked fucking AWESOME in comparison. The oligarchs are losing a shit ton of money and Russia as a whole is basically being embarrassed by the rest of the world. Soldiers are abandoning Russia by the boatload and they've said that they were lied to and are shocked that Ukraine was happy since they were told Ukraine would welcome them as liberators.

Yeah things aren't just stopping but this seems to be somewhat effective? Like, Russia is being made to look like an incompetent group of warmongers. This wouldn't have happened the same way 20 years ago. Even with Crimea it didn't happen like this.

What was there to cancel with ISIS/Taliban though? Seems they were already isolated from the world. Plus the war in Iraq/Afghanistan has US controlling the entire narrative. You barely saw dead US soldiers like we are seeing from both side in the Ukraine/Russia war.

Nope, it's just pushing Putin to start WWIII. The oligarchs can't do anything about Putin and if they try, they'll die and be forgotten (remember, they're the people with a 0% approval rating, not Putin, nor anyone else in this conflict).

No it wasnt a death total thing. Articles have already been made about US censorship and why the media did it. Here in NYT article on it will quote a part of the debate.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/14/magazine/media-bodies-censorship.html

The Obama administration lifted the ban against images of returning military coffins in 2009, but photographs of our war dead remain scarce. This virtual absence of images of American military casualties has been interpreted in multiple and conflicting ways. For some, policies against publishing photographs of dead American service members is a form of censorship that sanitizes war and obscures the violent consequences of military engagement. The news medias near blackout enables collective amnesia about war and its aftermath, critics argue, and allows the American public to ignore the real costs of the wars we send our fellow citizens to fight. Those who support banning photographs of American military casualties understand the images not just as antiwar but also as anti-soldier. They argue that showing the dead inflames controversy and politicizes soldiers sacrifices. For them, refusing to publish images of dead Americans is a sign of respect, a way to honor the privacy of service members and their families.

If it's not stopping anything it's not working. Putin doesn't give a fuck about optics.
