Depends how much support they get.

Russia will win unless other countries step in.

At the end of the day, this is between the two countries. One country isn't worth starting WW3 over.

I think they will win, but due to all the sanctions and global condemnation, it's going to cripple Russia in the long term.

I dont see the Russian leadership breaking under the social pressure, even from their own people. Although, Russian Instagram hotties coming out in favor of Ukraine was a serious blow.

Likewise, ultimately, Ukraine is unlikely to be able to hold back the force of the Russian military.

So with those two things in mind, what would cause Russia to withdraw or be repelled?

Succeed in the short term but ultimately have to withdraw embarrassingly either after angry Russian citizens force it because their economy is a smoldering crater or because Ukraine simply refuses to be tamed and they face years of resistance they simply cannot root out and ultimately Putin's succesor decides its not worth it/world War 3 forces them to abandon ukraine

How long will it take for Russia to defeat Ukraine's military resistance? Two weeks? A month? Two months? They are determined to hold out, for as long as possible. But how about Russia?
The Russian economy is already in deep trouble and it's not even been a week since the crushing sanctions were implemented. The war is expensive, and an occupation might be even more expensive, and Russia cannot fight if... when it's broke.
Success for Russia is unachievable.

Why do people think Russia is going to win? Their logistics are shit, their equipment is shit, they are running out of fuel and food, their rations are expired, they are using unsecured civilian comms, they are sending in mostly untrained conscripts, they keep trying unsupported assaults, it's been a week and they still don't have air superiority, their forces are being cut off and destroyed in counterattacks, sanctions are already tanking their economy, Ukraine is getting a ton of military aid.

Cause they have 5 times the active soldiers that Ukraine does? With a few million in back up. Sure, seems like very low morale soldiers doesn't do much for Russia.

I find it highly unlikely Ukraine will win if this drags out. They'll give them absolute hell, and force Russia to blend for every inch they gain. But Ukraine is too outgunned to hold out forever. They'll need actual, on-the-ground support in order to pull this off, and that's something the rest of the world is not gonna give.

Russia, meanwhile, is totally cooked unless they oust Putin and his entire regime. They could take Ukraine tomorrow, and the rest of the world will just continue cutting them off. Every major diplomatic body, every major industry. The country is under seige, without anyone firing a single shot. Which is, sadly, the best we can do when dealing with a group threatening nukes if an American soldier so much as sneezes in Russia's general direction.

To be frank, Russia's best tactical move is to let the Ukrainians drag this out. weeks. Months. Eventually the collective interest of the world will get bored and move on. It always does, no matter how horrible. Eventually the masses will stop paying attention, and the world's businesses will decide a monopoly-money ruble is better than no ruble at all.

Really hope that doesn't happen, and we keep the heat up. Crippling their economy is the best weapon we have, right now.
