I'm NOT a fan of 3G towers getting shut off (especially since I'm hearing that some 4G phones won't be working either for whatever strange reasons).
Also, from what I've read, iphones 5s and earlier will no longer work. Some android phones won't work either. Not everyone likes to upgrade to a new phone. I feel like they are doing this so it forces people to upgrade and pay for new phones.
On a side note, I'm not thrilled the shutdowns are happening at the same time when there is a possibility of a third world war breaking out (NOT saying it's going to happen. The war might stay put in Ukraine only, but in recent days there have been signs that it could break beyond Ukraine).

Yeah. I wasnt ever really trying upgrade from 6S. I only did because I needed to for my watch. If not for that, I wouldnt have upgraded for another few years

Nope, it's because they don't want to pay for licensing a spectrum not many people use, let alone maintaining the towers for it nationally.

Kyuubi's gimmick is to be as wrong about everything as much as possible. It's pretty amazing. He has to do research to be this wrong.

They're shutting down 3G so they can use the spectrum for 5G. With 4G and 5G in many areas, AT&T said that they were only using about 4% of their 3G capacity, the remaining 96% was wasted. Switching that spectrum to 5G will allow substantially more capacity. The 3G bands also tend to be lower frequency, which offers greater range than the current higher frequency 5G bands.

His primary gimmick is to be the worst, most unlikable human possible. Being wrong about everything is just a side product of that.

Also, I'll agree it's to free up for more 5G

*Edit* and maybe to reduce carbon footprint of the towers not really being used, but that's a long shot, and likely only minimal because of some compliance issue.

My best advise is go into a store, and talk to a real person, they can also contact tech support over the phone for you

Now my car infotainment does not work or load at all

so all the info i can gather is that, my phone would be working if i enabled "VoLTE" or "HD Calling"

but my phone does not have those settings usable, despite handily being able to do them. it's a galaxy s10e, u1 model so fully and completely unlocked.

if i put my sim card into a different phone, it works fine. all the right options are there, but on the s10, they just are not there.

LTE (4G) was a development of the 3G (UTMS) used by most of the rest of the world & most of the US carriers other than Sprint & Verizon, which was developed from 2G (GSM). The LTE signal is incompatible with 3G and 2G and must operate on separate bands.

3G as deployed by Sprint and Verizon (EV-DO/CDMA2000) was just an extension of 2G (IS-95/cdmaOne). Qualcomm was working on a 4G version, UMB, but it was abandoned in 2008. Sprint deployed another 4G technology, WiMAX, in a few dozen cities before abandoning it for LTE. WiMAX was based on IEEE 802.16

This doesn't even make sense. They are doing this so they don't have to pay for 3g anymore, which presumably means even if they lose every 3g customer they have they are still saving money. The idea that this is some kind of money grab in the sense you say is odd to me.
