I don't believe there's a single character overlap in the entirety of those questlines even on the fringe.

The one in Stormhill Castle could be cheesed by shooting from above, so I've made such a habit if possible.

Ants are always the worst. Doesn't matter that they're easy

its pretty funny. My anxiety about the ants made me so careful that I think I literally didnt take damage from them one time in the entire game.

I do think I completely missed everything involving the questline of the dude looking for his tomboy sister.

I never met his sister and he was in the manor for one scene then dissapeared.

The Castle Morne questline appeared to have also petered out somewhere.

I think the only quest I'm on track for is Blaidd's (and I guess Ranni's by proxy) because Blaidd is my boi

This one has a resolution of sorts, it's just not particularly satisfying.

You can find a shack full of meat and corpses and he'll invade you once you do, mad with bloodlust after getting his revenge. You kill him and that's it, no dialogue or anything.

I can't get over that they advertise George R R and the plot is just as opaque as any other souls game

Across the Roots Site of Grace in the Deeproot area. 3 stationary enemies directly next to it giving 3-4k souls each depending on your buff. Kill the 3, teleport, repeat.

Okay, one feather in Elden Ring's cap compared to BotW - actually having a NG+. I'm two hours in and it's so much fun to just cut straight to the meat (though I suppose this wouldn't be as fun in Zelda, since leisurely exploration was a much bigger deal for that game imo).

Ohhhhh.

I'm still plodding along. Went up to Mt. Gsomething and that place is a pain in the ass to move around, what with the ladders and whatnot. There was some Tomb I went into that had a staircase going down, with lava on both sides...and when I started to walk down some spinning death contraption revealed itself to be patrolling the stairs. Had no idea what to do about that so quickly got out of there.

Eventually got tired of that and went back to Luernia to explore the eastern side that I hadn't touched at all. Sure is nice to go into some of the catacombs and areas there actually be able to clear them out relatively easily.

I should have a good chunk of time this weekend to spend on this. Definitely want to give Margit another go and see if I'm capable of taking him on now.

Now that you mention that, I think I saw some scary looking area with lava and just noped on out, a long time ago.

I explored the area under the capital city. It seems like Fia summons npcs that have died?

Apparently my character became a sith somewhere along the way, recently noticed his eyes have turned yellow when they started out blue. Not sure what happened, something with dragons I'm guessing. Looks cool though!

Tonight I defeated Rykard! As far as gimmick fights go, I thought it was pretty fun. And now I got the Blasphemous Blade! My devout STR/FTH build is finally paying off!

Man that phase 2 of the penultimate boss. He is the Ultimate Warrior!

I often have a hard time "appreciating" bosses because I'm so laser-focused on actually surviving, so I'll sometimes look up YouTube vids because the spectator experience is clearly different.

...and holy shit, the Malenia fight is an absolute work of art. This is clearly the game's most special combat moment, and the one that IMO rivals Ludwig and Maria as an all-time classic boss fight. I can't stop thinking about how good it is.

I find the iframes hurt the viewing experience- it is a series of attacks clearly hitting the player, but because they're upside down they take no damage

But aside from that, the very visuals in general have been excellent!

hello this is my first From Soft game and I learned that you can sprint 4 hours in! (missed the tutorial at the beginning until going back there)

Cool game so far. Got to Castle Morne and did a lot of dropping off high places hoping not to die. Found a few grace spots by a beach with electric jellyfish and called it a night 7 hours later.

Also went back and killed that golden fucker at the very beginning when I hit level 20. Got a kickass new weapon that I can't even use! Dammit now I miss BotW (weapon breaking and all).

I have no idea what to level up and the amount of different systems in the game (and crap I collect with no descriptions unless going in the menu) is a bit overwhelming. I started as a Vanguard because I heard it was the most noob friendly. Mainly focusing on vigor, strength and endurance. Apparently dexterity is better for faster weapons though? I like faster weapons. But I just got this shiny new golden halberd I gotta have 30 strength to use properly, so strength it is.

Well I'm way behind in this topic but if I have newbie questions I won't be afraid to ask. Like right now I have no idea how critical hits work so I can't really use that assasin dagger talisman I got a while ago

Golden Halberd is a fairly slow weapon, so I'm not sure you'll be into it, but maybe you will be! By the way, you can't still equip weapons you don't have the stats to use; they're just weaker. You can equip it and try swinging it around to see how it feels if you like.

Yep, I saw that and that's exactly what I did. Certainly slow and I'm not that into it, but its stats are just so far above my +1 Longsword right now (the Vagabond starting one, smithed once). And this was the first Souls boss I ever took down and I want to enjoy my spoils dammit.

Maybe I'll find a better fast weapon while I'm leveling. The good news is it appears leveling strength OR dexterity still raises attack stats of everything, at least at the low levels.

I just completed Ranni quest and Blaidd's quest, I wish there was a way to save him, he's so good even up to the end when he's fighting with himself on his dedication to Ranni. I will wear his set now in memory of a good boy

basically anyone in the manor will leave it when you beat the boss, so any character there who has a quest will no longer be accessible

For anyone wondering, bosses in NG+ die just as easily to Comet Azur cheese.

I'm up to three achievement-tied bosses dead on Steam that just didn't pop the achievement for whatever reason and will now have to be redone on NG+. I'm pretty sure this is SHINE's version of hell.

There's a merchant in Liurnia who sells boiled prawns that won't be accessible if you fail to initiate his quest prior to Volcano Manor

Decided to stop hoarding and actually upgrade the weapon I'm using. Got the Crystal Sword to +5 and it makes a fucking massive difference in damage output. Went back to some of the early game Catacombs and Minor Erdtrees and shit and was wrecking house. Crazy how much easier things are when you can take a sizable chunk of health bar with each swing...

I also think I'm on course to get the ability to upgrade the spirits. Probably have to leave and go back to Roundtable Hold again. Sigh, this is what happens when you play for 10-15 hours without going back there.

Unless the weapon has crazy good scaling, 1 weapon level up is worth more than a half dozen points in the relative stat.

I was feeling adrift after finishing Elden Ring, so I decided to load up my in-progress Dark Souls file

i was a dex/int character wielding a katana. I never change.

anyway, I was in the catacombs and couldnt figure out what Id already done or where I should go so I quit

then I decided to start Dark Souls 2 instead, which is the only Souls game I havent played

wow theres more stats in this and its confusing!
I went with Bandit because it had 1 intelligence and that meant I definitely couldnt do my traditional dex/int thing

beat one boss so far. Feels Soulsy.
