I'm fluent in Dutch and English, and can speak a reasonable amount of French and Spanish.

I wouldn't say my English is perfect, especially spoken, but from what I see it might be better than some supposed native speakers.

"English" (New Jersey/Philadelphia)

I can *understand* Spanish passably well, but I can't actually speak it without some massive forethought - though my accent is okay when I do, from what I've been told.

i'd love to, but i hate being bad at things. going through that awkward (and possibly permanent) phase between high-school level and true fluency would make me so uncomfortable

i appreciate my mastery of the english language, and speaking in another language will always feel like trying to eat dinner properly while wearing a giant mascot suit

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

No and tbh there are very few people who speak more than one language at a native level

There is a difference between being fluent and speaking at a native level. People from a certain country, area, whatever can often catch someone who is not originally from there based on subtle speech differences, word choices, and so on.

Native is really less about the size of your vocab for the language (although that is important) than it is about how closely another native speaker would believe you grew up with it.

This is essentially my problem with learning Chinese.
