Chest has been hurting the past couple days and my throat started feeling funny/scratchy. Have some extra tests and figured I'd give it a whirl. I see a very faint line, as do my manager and two coworkers.

I'm also concerned it's a false positive.

If someone was bothering me about invisible lines Id tell them sure I see it to make them leave.

Welp, thank God I work with people who actually care about others, including their own health. All three are saying they see it and are asking me to stay home.

I don't see one, no.

I even went to the trouble of inverting the colors in paint and still don't see it.

I see a line, but it's more like everything west of the T is darker, it's not a discrete line. But it's definitely there.

I have no idea what it means.

Anyone voting for the second option have thoughts on how that could be? You at least see it. How could it be then? A fluke? False positive?

The instructions on the test tell you what to do for a false positive situation.

Its not go around talking to people and handing them objects youve breathed on.

Go home or take another test.

Those are your only two options.

It's actually more visible and apparent in person than in the pic.

...I haven't gone into the office and am at home. I also sent the very picture ITT to them. I never would do anything you just suggested I did. I take COVID more seriously than anyone I know.

Not sure what that means for your test...

But if it was a pregnancy test I'd say you were pregnant.

For the record, this would be the third time I've taken this type of test (since the pandemic) and both those first times, there was no faintness at all. It was purely white, unmistakable. The only reason I'm concerned is the instructions specifically show a very faint line.

FWIW, I was in close contact with someone who had Covid, got sick as a fucking dog with textbook covid symptoms, and didn't test positive once. So even if there's no line, you might still have it.

I don't think the darker area is the T line. More likely it's how far the liquid is up the piece of paper. These tests are basically chromatography and the liquid "seeps" up the paper. That's the darker area y'all are seeing. Source: I have a MSc in Chemical Engineering

e: if you want to double check next time, take two pictures a couple of minutes apart. If the darker area moves up the test between the two tests then it's not a result line

By all means, take another test to be sure. But that's not a positive

You might get a clearer answer if you swab the back of your throat before doing the nose, if you have another test around.

If you think you see a line, wait and take it again. Quarantine until then.

Also this because the omicron variant behqves like the flu it throws off testing by not being as prevalent in the nasal cavity.

I do drug tests at work a bit and that sounds reasonable. Top lines almost are always lighter. Sometimes this faint but it's enough for us to write "negative" on the test results

Okay, that's relieving, and it makes sense.

I'm definitely going to test again. Figured I'd wait until this evening. Will likely get a PCR test depending on the result. That wasn't entirely clear with my topic. The wheels are already in motion as far as how I'm handling it. I just wanted to see if anyone else could see the line.

Very, very faint. I'd assume it's just a blank line (similar to when you can see the non-lit-up segments of digits on digital clocks, for example), not a very faint positive line.

Other thing I'd bring up - take with a grain of salt as it's outside the official instructions for most RATs, though does at least seem to have some expert opinion in favor of it - is that taking a throat swab can sometimes be better at detecting Omicron: https://www.newsroom.co.nz/hacked-antigen-tests-could-catch-omicron-earlier

I don't know. I see it again. And when comparing to my girlfriend's test, there is clearly a distinction. No visible or faint line.

While I see a difference in the line, I also see a difference in the color of the test itself, which suggests either different tests or different lighting in the photo.

Keep in mind covid is not the only thing that can cause those symptoms. Is it possible you might have cold, flu, RSV, etc?

Oh it's definitely the lighting and how I took it. But there was nothing close in my girl's test. All white. Same test.

lit youre unsure, assume its positive and isolate etc. As PP suggested, try to get a PCR test.

Thank you. I needed to hear that. My coworker and I got into a little argument about it. She basically pulled the "you take precautions and still catch it, what's the point of precautions?" Same one who exposed our entire office to it a couple months ago. Came to work with a "frog in her throat."

But yeah, you're right. Even if the PCR comes back negative, I did the right thing.

For me I work in a prison where when it hits it spreads like wild fire. Amazing we haven't had a single death.

Social distancing is impossible in a prison. Cleanliness is never gonna be good enough cause the janitors can't keep up with inmates who just don't give a fuck about there being a pandemic (hint most don't enough to take precautions/clean up after themselves) we lost the battle on making them where masks. And I can understand. It's one thing for me to wear my mask at work. They where expected to wear it all day unless they where eating drinking in the shower or brushing teeth.

This was my thought. It's the strip that makes the colored line I think.
