Last time I passed through Portland with my husband, on 3 separate instances we were approached by clean clothed, groomed, healthy looking teenagers wearing new shoes while talking on cell phones. They each gave an almost identical story of being homeless for months and needing our cash. Then we caught another con artist on cam outside of a local mall begging for "$5's or $10's". He kept dropping a sob story of being an abandoned military vet who's stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of his life and needed money to afford a new one. He did not seem to mind abandoning that chair on foot when the cops were chasing him across a park... Welcome to bland, generic, not-so-scenic Portland. Hair of the dog brewery is great if theyre still open, heard from a friend who still lives there that theyre closing this summer. You should absolutely make a trip to the Columbia River gorge if you enjoy the outdoors and hiking at all.
