You can't see ANY reasons a poor person couldn't attend college.. because you went? How is your experience the metric for everyone?

Having been poor, and having known many, many poor people...no poor person has "the latest and highest end iPhone." Hell, most middle-class people I know aren't wasteful enough to spend that kind of money on the newest phones. When I was poor I outright refused to buy a phone that cost more than $200, and even then there were only like 2 options in that price range. Even now, with a 6 figure household income, the husband and I still went with S20's when we switched carriers a few months ago. Ironically, literally the only people I know who keep up with the latest phones are the extended family Trumpers who basically inherited their business while simultaneously screeching about bootstraps, antifa, and BLM at every opportunity.

Lol this. I'm not even THAT poor and I'm using a cracked S10+ I got for my birthday like 2 years ago.

Are there seriously people that think there's a slew of people making 25k a year with iPhone 13s and PS5s?

What a short sighted and simplistic view. Poor people tend to go to not so great schools. They end up with lower Gpas that greatly hamper their chances for scholarships. Also not great environments growing up which don't stimulate the kids towards academic achievements. It's not that they can't do it, it's just harder.

There's plenty of folks who worked 60+ hours per week, went to school full-time and sacrificed sleep and fun-times. They also only bought things they needed and not what they wanted. One of my relatives only had a mattress and a folding card table for meals/schoolwork in his apartment when he started out. Make sacrifices while you're young so the road is easier when you're older.

This is a fantasy.

Lol, if someone can afford iphones and cars, then they aren't poor by definition, not rich either, but definitely not poor.

Probably because most of them are busy working 2 or 3 jobs just to eat. Being able to sacrifice to attend college isnt exactly the easiest thing to do when youre living on paychecks that are below middle class.

Food is included in the college plans.

Err...not every college plan? And certainly not community colleges? Also, are they expected not to eat at Christmas break, summer, and after cafeteria hours?

I grew up poor. Being middle class is much easier and much better than being poor despite having to pay more money for things because I actually have the money to pay. When I was poor, I was just borrowing tons with no end in sight.

Also, I had some extreme luck to be able to attend college. I got a scholarship for people who did well in HS to go to community college, so that covered some of my costs of living so that I only had to work 20 hours/week instead of 40+ like I would have if I got no assistance. I did well at the community college so I got another scholarship to go to a prestigious university, but that was based on luck and my merit. If I didn't have either of those things, I would have been really screwed.
