Not sure how I feel about these one-hit killing EMMIs

I didn't like them, but they get much more tolerable as you unlock ways to deal with them. Also, get good at the QTE to push them off. The timing always seemed different from the other ones. Like you need to hit it earlier than the indicator.

I don't believe in belts. There should be no ranking system for toughness.

I started it about a month ago, beat the first boss, then put it down and haven't picked it up since. I'm not knocking it, t's a good game thus far and I've been meaning to get back into it. Mechanically it's great, but for some reason the aesthetics haven't really grabbed me yet; my biggest problem with the latter is that the world design doesn't feel very alien. This also extends to the EMMIs themselves - mechanically they're fun to avoid and outwit, but aesthetically they're more drab and annoying than pulse-pounding intimidating (not exactly a hot take, I know...).

Because that's true. You have somewhere around 8 frames to push the counter button after the light shines and human reaction speeds aren't that fast, so you basically have to guess when it will happen and press it early. Which is hard in itself because there are 4 different EMMI animations, and each animation has a random time before the window appears. For example, you might recognize you got animation 1 and the window might appear 1 second later, but in the next encounter it might appear 1.25 seconds later.

Basically consider yourself lucky if you counter, but don't expect it, just accept death (and you respawn right outside the room so who cares). I countered an EMMI maybe 3 times in my whole playthrough.
