im deeply afraid of needles so i kept chickening out over it but today i finally mustered up the courage to suck it up, and i finally got it done, and...........

........the embarrassing thing is that it actually didnt even hurt at all. i spent so long hyping this up in my head cause the idea of it was so scary and would send me into a panic and then i literally didnt even feel it

my arm feels a tiny bit sore and i feel a slight tingly sensation in my fingers but other than that i feel totally fine. huzzah for me or whatever

You should wait up to 8 weeks before getting a booster, to reduce risk of myocarditis, per the CDC:

i ask them to use the thickest gauge needle they have and drive it in as slow as possible

I didnt even feel the needle for the first one, no pain whatsoever, it was great. Got sore the next day but was fine after. 2nd shot hurt a tad, but no pain after.

I hate needles too, so I know that feel.

I told them not to count it down and I looked away the entire time so I wouldnt freak out or anything.

Dont get too anxious about the second/booster, theyre basically the same and the side effects are about the same too.

i likely will need four shots, im immunocompromised so ill probably need that extra dose, and i actually think ill just go back to my doctors office for all my shots. i know i can get them anywhere but honestly like the nurse was really sweet and really helped to put me at ease beforehand

you risked the lives of others because youre afraid of needles, and then you chose to finally get the shot when covid mutated into basically a slightly stronger flu? Thats the ultimate f*** you you can give to your fellow humans, congrats.

nah, i didnt actually! see since i have a chronic illness i dont actually leave the house. the only people im around is my family, and my dad and brother already have all of their shots

yeah but tbf when i had the bloodwork done that confirmed my lupus that shit hurt like hell. i get its a different kind of needle but i did cry a tiny amount over that. i swear that lady was jostling my arm around each time she switched out a tube

yeah the covid shot is of the least painful shots Ive ever takrn

Psychological anticipation of pain is almost always worse than the actual pain, no matter how many times somebody tells you that it doesn't hurt at all.

i'm the same. still yet to get the jab, which I will eventually because you kinda need it to get into places here. my whole household including partner got covid two weeks ago and I've yet to show up positive or feel sick

It'll be sore tomorrow (mostly just that one muscle) and then the next day it will start to go away pretty fast. At least, that was my experience.

Grats, man! It really is way better for you in the long run. I'm glad you were able to face your fears head on.

Make sure you get the second dose and booster done too.

thanks everyone. believe me, those of us with needle phobias are acutely aware of how we come off to everyone else, but by definition a phobia is intense and irrational, its not gonna make sense to folks that dont have it. getting my bloodwork done for the first time in 11 years helped a bit with that fear but like........that phobia was why it took 11 years to take another needle LOL

i will say that last night and all of today i have felt completely awful. my arm is swollen and killing me, im crunching painkillers like candy, and its doing nothing, and this is supposed to be the mild shot?? lordy

If you're immunocompromised then also look into Evushield by AstraZeneca. It's specifically for immunocompromised or allergic to the vaccine.

It's very hard to get right now is you might be on a waiting list.

Also you're only eligible if you haven't had COVID before.

This is only for males 18-39.

Also it's not really a recommendation they're just noting that the risk is lower if you wait extra weeks.

You do realize thats young to be having any kind of heart problems. Its not a minor thing.
An 18 or 20 year old with heart problems its not normal.

So yes, I believe that information is important.

Move it around in a circular motion a bunch (although ideally you do this right after getting the shot).

An 18 or 20 year old with heart problems its not normal.

And also important is that you are guaranteed to have heart problems after catching COVID.
