Not once in the sequel trilogy did you ever have a moment get you excited/pumped like this:

Uhh...Rey pulling the lightsaber to herself with the force for the first time? Poe showing up after we thought he was dead, only to shoot down like 7 TIEs in one unbroken shot? Han boarding the Millennium Falcon with Chewie?

The hyperspace ram sequence? Kylo Ren killing Snoke? Luke standing up to an entire armored battalion of walkers?

You can dislike the sequel trilogy as much as you want, but to act like it didn't have any hype moments is pretty disingenuous.

Rogue One was a self-contained story that had the luxury of being a fairly natural link between the prequels and the originals.

The sequels never found their footing as there was no central planning for some inane reason. My hot take is that Force Awakens was a fun stepping stone, Last Jedi was a great new direction, but Rise of Skywalker was a horribly patched together overcorrection that brought the previous two movies down and didn't even stand on its own. I just don't get how the same company that oversaw the largest media franchise didn't think to plan out Star Wars, for better or worse.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

The sequel trilogy did have it's hype moments. That's none of them were of the same emotional weight.

I'll admit, I was shocked when General Hux admitted he was the spy but those movies were slapped together so poorly there was no real payoff for said hype.

The Rise of Skywalker mark out moments

  • when Lando showed up with the cavalry in the end.
  • Force Ghost Luke Skywalker appears and lifts X-Wing

They had a plan. Abrams drafted a 3 movie outline and shared those notes with Johnson. Abrams explicitly met with Johnson to coordinate on cross-movie plans. Johnson tossed all the notes at best, actively used them to fuck up plans for the third movie at worst. This has been explicitly confirmed by the cast:
https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/star-wars-rian-johnson-scrapped-jj-abrams-episode-viii-script/
Ridley revealed to Geek Le Mag that J.J. Abrams, who directed and co-wrote The Force Awakens, also wrote scripts for Episode VIII and IX before Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow jumped in to direct the sequels.

Heres what I think I know. J.J. wrote Episode VII, as well as drafts for VIII & IX, Ridley said. Then Rian Johnson arrived and wrote TLJ entirely. I believe there was some sort of general consensus on the main lines of the trilogy, but apart from that, every director writes and realizes his film in his own way.

Exactly how much of the Sequel Trilogy was outlined in the early days of development by Abrams and the Lucasfilm Story Group remains a bit hazy, but we do know that Abrams and Johnson collaborated when it came to bridging the gap between The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Johnson, for example, asked Abrams to send R2-D2 on the mission to find Luke Skywalker instead of BB-8 so that the astromech droid could play back Leias original message to Obi-Wan Kenobi for Luke in The Last Jedi.

Rian Johnson and J. J. Abrams met to discuss all of this, although Episode VIII is still his very own work, Ridley explained of Abrams involvement with The Last Jedi. I believe Rian didnt keep anything from the first draft of Episode VIII.

Luke's "fight" with Kylo Ren is the best moment in Disney Star Wars so far.

Although some of the stuff in Rebels definitely competes.

It was pretty cool even though I think the Rose Tico bit hamstrings that entire scene. And this is coming from someone that liked Rose Tico as a character.

An Abrams outline did exist for sure, but it was nothing cemented in stone and nothing that anyone was contractually obligated to stick to. Their original plan was to have three very different directors direct three Star Wars movies, and there was a massive dissonance as soon as other creative voices made their revisions.

Abrams or Johnson or whomever, they should've stuck to one lead creative voice from the get go and gotten them locked down to make all three. As already said, I'm a Last Jedi fan and I liked what Johnson did and that Abrams shouldn't have doubled back after the fact, but all of their issues could've been avoided had they just stuck to a fairly traditional trilogy plan rather than a weird hedging bets on three different directors (which became two after the fact) non-plan.

Totally fake, but since it's a woman I can see why people would believe it.

Fake reaction is fake. Reaction videos are garbage.

I don't like TLJ much at all, but at least there were some ideas in it even if I hated them. RO was just "Wouldn't it be cool if ____ appeared?" and "muh gritty SW movie". I can at least tell you who the characters were in TLJ too unlike RO.

As a person with a VERY superficial knowledge/investment in Star Wars (only saw TLJ and RotS last year), I definitely felt RotS used a lot more... throwbacks/fake outs? It also felt a very different tonal shift from TLJ...

Then again TLJ had the random going off to find a gambler in the middle of a chase that just felt.. awkward and random?

Plus as a decades long RTS player, using light armor and infantry head on against heavy armor and artillery when trying to stop/destroy the driller really irked me

Big disagree.

There are actually a ton of moments in the sequels that got me super hyped.

Ironically enough, there was very little in Rogue One that got me hyped. Aside from the two Vader scenes. And Threepio & Artoos cameo.

ngl, I thought the robot in Rogue One was funny. But I also liked the robot in Solo, and I don't remember their names or any of the lines they said, and I also blank on what the robot from Solo looks like and my brain keeps going to Dot Matrix from Spaceballs when I try to recall her.
