At least I spent less then $20 for the whole lot.

I actually didn't dislike Mass Effect Andromeda, but I played it after a lot of the early issues had been patched. It wasn't an amazing game but it wasn't terrible. The biggest issue now is that the story won't be finished.

I didn't dislike DA2, it actually has some of my favorite party chat.

I agree with pretty much all of this.

After patching, my opinion on it was basically that it was a fun/interesting sci-fi game, but a weak Mass Effect game. A lot of the flack it gets is because people are judging it against the previous games, not just on its own merits (and a lot of the rest of the flack is from how utterly shit it was at launch before it got patched).

It definitely has its flaws (and as people point out, in a lot of ways it is a rehash of the assimilation plot of the earlier games), but it was enjoyable enough that I've played through it multiple times.

Most of the things people complain about are completely overblown, and are things that exist in both DA:O and Mass Effect (where people mostly ignore them) - and are kind of understandable when you realize just how rushed its development cycle was. It also got crap for simplifying/mainstreaming the controls to make the game more action-y/accessible (basically the same thing Mass Effect 2 did), but it's not necessarily a bad thing (and it's still better than the crap nightmare hybrid they used for DA:I trying to satisfy both types of player). So people mostly shit on it way more than it deserves.

Meanwhile, it has better characters (IMO) overall than both the other two games, more pleasing graphics aesthetically than the other games (DA:I was kind of a step backwards), it has the best music of the three (DA:I is easily the weakest), and I'd argue it has the most interesting overarching story - even if Hawke is mostly kind of helpless and ultimately completely superfluous (which is the other reason people tend to dislike it).

Plus it has the advantage of being able to import the flags from the previous game without having to use the digital abortion that is Dragon Age Keep. Seriously, fuck EA, Origin, and Dragon Age Keep.

A LOT of the hate for DAII (especially at the time it came out) came from people who just wanted to play their Warden again, and were pissed that they were forced to play as this Hawke person. In spite of the fact that BioWare outright said we're never going to see the Warden again, because their story was "done" (something people were still complaining about when DA:I came out). Which, ironically, is also something that hurt Mass Effect: Andromeda - there was a lot of "Screw Ryder, I'd rather be playing as Shepard" backlash.

I didn't enjoy Mass effect. The main character is terrible and the supporting cast is forgettable. I actually can't remember a single crewmate from that game. The combat was wonky, the open world was barren and the new races were....boring as well.

Never played Mirrors edge, so meh.

Echoing the Andromeda sentiments. It was a fun game by itself. Nothing spectacular. Played it after a lot of the issues were patched out.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst is fun, though I still prefer the first game.

Never finished Inquisition. Got bored with it.

The problem with DA:I was that it was half of a good DA game. Unfortunately, the other half was dull plodding sandbox bullshit because they desperately wanted to be like Skyrim and did it in precisely the wrong way.

Andromeda was a lot of fun. The gameplay was very satisfying. The animation in cutscenes wasnt great and the story was a bit bland and worst of all characters were boring.

but gameplay was so much fun. Way more fun mechanically than the trilogy imo

andromeda has fun combat and some of the planets are pretty. (also peebee > liara)

da2 has really fun mage combat (turn off friendly fire). da1 your mage just pokes their staff forward to auto-attack....

da:i is too open and empty.

Ehhhh.

I mean, Liara is way physically cuter, but I could see someone preferring Peebee's boisterous impulsiveness over Liara's naive dullness (in the first game) or her tendency towards cold bitchiness (in ME2 and ME3). And in some ways she feels like a better match for Ryder (at least if you play Ryder as being a bit impulsive and sarcastic) than Liara does with Shepard. Ryder's a young and reckless explorer and so is Peebee, whereas the Shepard/Liara relationship is a grizzled war vet with a borderline jailbait young research nerd.

Granted, -I- personally prefer Liara (and she's my usual go-to romance interest in ME1-3), but I wouldn't find it insane if someone else liked Peebee more.

I don't even find it odd if there are people who like Liam or Cora as love interests. Even if that sounds utterly crazy.
