Are you scared of death?

Also, are you scared of the fact of being dead or of the process of death i.e. whether or not you'll die a painful death or you'll go out feeling nothing.

It's interesting that some are more afraid of being dead than the process of dying as they can't comprehend what happens after they're dead and for others it's just the actual process

I think about it from time to time. Oddly, Im not as afraid of it now as I was before I started my transition. I say oddly, but its because I feel like Im actually living and wont die without ever being who I always was.

When I was a kid, yes and yes. The thought of it terrified me.

Now, I'd still say yes, but it's not a constant thing I think about or am afraid of.

yeah, I think about death a lot. I feel like I shouldn't be alive.

And it was only fairly recently that I wrapped my mind wholly around the idea of death. Because when you're a kid, it's like you close your eyes one day and everything goes dark and you never move again. That in itself is a nightmare scenario. But it took me over twenty years to comprehend that it's not like seeing blank, empty nothingness for eternity. It's experiencing nothing. There's no "you" to register darkness. You're gone, and what used to be you is rotting meat. So when you close your eyes and imagine that's what death is like, it isn't. There is literally nothing, because there's no more you to perceive it.

Anyway this is not a cry for help, so plz no mod.

I feel like this is one of those realities of life that parents never tell their children about. I had to find it on my own, among other things.

No, because it's nothing to be feared, so long as you can manage to conceptualize an understanding of it in a more philosophical and metaphysical manner, as opposed to a simplified physical or biological event.

Not really death specifically, but rather dying in a slow, painful, horrifying way, which can be as 'simple' as walking inside an old abandoned barn where a big wasp nest falls loose from the ceiling and gets stuck around my head.

I think less about death itself and more about being right on the precipice of it. Either being ill enough or old enough to be staring it down every day. The idea of going to bed every day and thinking "This could be the one, I genuinely might not wake up from this." seems like it'd give you a really difficult time.

I mostly think about it because I'd like to get a character idea right, to figure out how a character would go about their day if they were perpetually convinced that they were closing in on an ending they weren't satisfied with. Would they feel like they guilty about going first and leaving others with the repercussions or would their view of others who went before them turn more and more bitter as they struggled to get over it? Stuff like that.

I just hope that whenever I go, I'm not aware that it's coming.

It's not the death itself that scares me, but knowing in real time that it is inevitable (drowning, bleeding out, etc.)

Just take me in my sleep, please

If it's any consolation, people who die of "natural causes" when they're like 80 years old aren't exactly having the time of their lives. I'd rather be shot and experience a few seconds to minutes of excruciating pain than spend months if not years in chronic pain that progressively becomes worse and being addicted to medication. I've worked in a nursing home. It's awful.
