It seems like with every single issue or situation that ever happens in our entire world, liberals naturally gravitate to one stance and conservatives gravitate to the opposing stance. I really try not to be Conspiracy Brother, but it almost feels like its manufactured by the news, internet and/or social media to be that way with EVERYTHING.

I bet if there was a terrorist organization committing puppy and kitten genocide, there would somehow be two sides to this situation.

The problem with bipartisanship is that the only thing Democrats and Republicans have agreed on for years are bad for the people and only beneficial for corporate interests 99% of the time.

It sounds good and reasonable to support bipartisanship yet it has an awful recent record.

Conservatives will also create an issue where none existed (War on Christmas, take-your-guns for the last 60 years, falsely claiming that all hormonal contraception is abortifacient and getting the Supreme Court to uphold their "sincerely-held beliefs," etc.) as a way to purposefully foment hatred against their political opponents.

look back at the 90s. both parties were relatively reasonable and willing to listen to the other side. compromise was not the 'dirty word' it is today, it feels like these days if you compromise you're being weak and giving in, instead of being open minded and considering the feelings of your opponent.

then Obama happened and the racists came out in full force and promised to block _everything_ he did. our country hasn't been the same since.

no. look at the 90s. Democrat PotUS, Republican Congress and they still got a lot done. they even balanced the budget _with a surplus_. then W came along and completely butt-fucked all of that with his unnecessary war AND tax cuts for the rich.

Pretty much this. The entire political system is designed to create two competing political parties. This makes it difficult to construct environments where political cooperation is even politically expedient, let alone actually practical or beneficial.

The only times in the history of this country where bipartisanship has been strong is when there is a foreign power posing as a strong political threat (either real or perceived).

Yep. Never forget this when right wingers whine about the left not wanting to compromise with them. They spent 8 years refusing to work with Obama, and then another 4 trying to do everything he did purely out of spite.

Bipartisanship died long ago.

The bipartisanship of the 90s gutted welfare, resulting in worse outcomes for the poorest families. It would have cut social security, too, if Clinton didn't have more pressing concerns in 1998. The bipartisanship of the post-9/11 brought us the Patriot Act, and wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

These are not things we should be nostalgic for!

Your arguement here is essentually "it would be better if we had a leftist government". Which I agree! But that's not going to happen for a hundred years, if at all. And we have people who need help now. A society that needs help now. An environment that needs help now. I think you like to spout things that sound good because you think sloganism is going to get people over to the left. But you know that at lot of the things you say are bullshit. And yeah, bullshit for a good cause, so I can't be too mad, but integrity is still important.

So yeah, what would be good right now is some bipartisan work to help out the people who need it, even if it isn't fast, or as much as we would like. Your discourse provides nothing, and just hurts honest people who want progress.
