What's really crazy is that much of their culture they inherited from the Akkadians and Sumerians, however neither one of those cultures were anywhere near as violent.

They didn't jot it down doesn't mean they were as violent. They were waging wars so brutality was inevitable.

It's honestly kind of debatable. Certainly the people who currently call themselves the Assyrians have little in common culturally with the Assyrian empires, yet they are likely direct descendants.
