so I'm staying at a hotel for work. My job's paying for the hotel, I'm just staying here, and I'll be here for about a month.

I'm not sure what to do about tipping though. I can't really work from any sort of percentage because I'm not the one receiving the bill, and I'm not sure what's appropriate because I don't stay in hotels much.

Ask for service to be suspended except for when you call for it, then give a fiver each time.

I've also left the "Quiet time, do not disturb" sign on my room for a few days now because honestly I kind of prefer to not have the daily housekeeping beyond things like having towels and sheets cleaned like once/week. Not sure if that's considered rude?

Just a couple of bucks. And staying that long they may not expect you to really tip much anyways

That's pretty standard.

I was just guessing on the tip amount, but yeah, you can just suspend service, especially if you're in there for multiple days.

if I stayed for a week I might tip $10. I assume you can expense it under incidental.

so I called front desk to see if it could be suspended for a while, they said by law it has to be at least once every 3 days? Maybe it's a local thing. But yeah maybe $10 once/week would be reasonable? I also don't really carry cash on me so it's not like I have a month worth of ones lying around.

I believe you're supposed to leave tips for hospitality, when they clean your room and stuff?

Last time they were in here they left an envelope on the desk specifically asking for gratuity

Fuck tipping culture. Pay your fucking staff a living wage!

A tip should be for extraordinary service, not a given.

I don't think I've ever tipped for cleaning. Maybe like once if it was an actual lot to do. Mostly bell boys or if you get food

You're supposed to tip the cleaning staff by leaving money in the room when you leave, but I do not travel often enough to remember to do it.

For real lol. I've heard of tipping the bell boy, but I've never seen one in person before.

See I dont believe this one because there's been lots of times where I leave loose money, like $5 or so around and its not disturbed when I come back.

I've never tipped for hotel but I've never stayed a month.

I tried to tip the bell boy in NZ after he carried my suitcases up and he's like we don't do that here.

Never tip a hotel unless you have a pressing need to win a lot of money at pachinko.

Well duh they're not going to steal your money. You have to leave it with a note or otherwise make it clear it's a tip.

I haven't been in a hotel since 2005.

Rather sleep in my own car, instead.
