Maybe Armor of Shadows if you have good Dex. It's at will mage armor. Beast Speech to talk to animals at will.

What's your patron?

What are your thoughts on casting this until you roll a 4 on the d4 to get the maximum benefit at all times? >_> Nothing says you can't but I feel like it would maybe be too meta gamey, idk.

Yeah like, we need some details man. Patron/Build? I would assume you aren't going bladelock but honestly agonizing blast is good enough that its fine for bladelocks to take, so we need deets

Repelling Blast to keep pushing enemies away, and preferably into some concentration spell like Web or Spike Growth.

If you use it out of combat a good DM should just give it to you without rolling.

And are you starting at level 2? With a lot of combat you just might want the AC from armor of shadows. With a +3 to dex it'd take you to 16 AC.

It has a verbal component so if you were doing it constantly I'd have NPCs constantly creeped out by it/calling you a door knob.
Lol, I could see that but you'd only really need to roll for temp hp after you lose some so it wouldn't be exactly constant. Something like Guidance though during a conversation is definitely off putting, from an NPC perspective.

For Fathomless i would definitely say Devil's sight. You can swim in any water easily, as dark sight is really the only thing missing from the pact features for the perfect underwater explorer.

Also the Devil sight+Darkness combo is pretty perfect for Fathomless, making it pretty impossible for an enemy to deal with the Tentacle+Eldritch Blast barrage.

Repelling blast is also pretty good, as it synergizes very well with tentacle, as you can just keep an enemy pushed away, perma slowed, with a tentacle between you. The issue I have though is that Fathomless already gets a few pact spells that push, so it could be kinda redundant depending on the situation.

Is repelling blast good? I want to knock plenty of fools into the water.
Not really, but you can definitely have fun with it. Especially if you get rules lawyer-y with hitting party members.

I don't think you guys are giving repelling blast enough credit when its combined with Fathomless tentacle. Having an at will push combined with what is essentially a movable turret that slows, takes up space, and can't even be attacked is pretty insane.

As others said, it is situational. It's a fair bit of fun if someone in the party knows Spike Growth. Really any of the AoE spells that create difficult terrain and deal damage will work. It's also fun near pits or cliffs.

Your Pact can make a difference too. E.g. Pact of the Blade can take Eldritch Smite, which adds 1d8 force damage to a hit per level of your spell slots(up to 5d8) and, the best part, automatically knocks a Huge or smaller creature prone without the possibility of a saving throw. Any other melee fighters in your group will appreciate the Advantage.

Fathomless. It's a short hexcrawl in a flooded world so lots of aquatic combat. DM has been pretty tight lipped on details so far.

You should have picked Tyranthraxus. I am not biased.
