In most places it's pretty comfortable, but that's about it. Enough for a decent house, a fully loaded Toyota, and 2 vacations a year. It's really not all that cracked as people make it to be.

$250k salary is when you can start making big investments and getting big returns. With this salary you should easily escape the rat race within 5 or so years as long as you're aggressive.

Most people are struggling on $100k. After taxes, it's only $6000/month after taxes. Add in Health insurance and 401k, you're bringing home 5200.

The price of everything is up. Rent, Houses, food, gas, etc. It's all up

If you cannot budget for 6 grand a month without kids then you are a complete fuck up in life and should have no business making that much money to begin with. There's like 10 states where 100k might not be that much, everywhere else and that's enough to live very comfortably

$15/hr is about $30,000/yr, assuming you can get 40 hours a week. So, yeah, $50/hr is a lot of money, even if the area your in is unaffordable. The average US salary is about $52k and the median is about $34k (2019). 100k is triple the median and double the average. You can BUY 2 median people and still live a frugal life.

Weak bait.

100k a year in a place like Missouri is "do whatever you want" money, since rent and housing are insanely cheap.

Even if you budget, it's still not as great a salary as people make it to be. $100k is just comfortable, nothing to brag about.

Who wants to live in Missouri though? Would you seriously move there outside of wanting to save up? Most people wouldn't.

Bte, the median US home price is about $400k, so you could buy a decent home, pay half your salary per year, and pay it off+30% in 10 years. You could feasibly buy a new home every 5 years and constantly resell for profit.

It's not as bad as it sounds. Taxes are pretty low, for starters. Especially on cigarettes, but I wouldn't recommend smoking.

100k for a single person is a lot of money anywhere in the country aside from places with next level moronic housing prices (Bay Area, parts of LA, etc.). 100k household income for a family of 3+ is a different thing.

ImInTHIS posted... Even if you budget, it's still not as great a salary as people make it to be. $100k is just comfortable, nothing to brag about.

The best part of society is that well off people often heavily control the narrative about what "a lot of money" is. Surprisingly, it usually falls just above whatever money they have. Can't imagine why.

Anyway, let's just continue listening to them. Surely they are the best sources of information about money.

To some, being comfortable means having a large disposable income after being able to max out 401ks, ira, and brokerage account.

For others being comfortable means being able to pay rent, food, and save a couple hundred each month.

It's highly relative on what part of life you're into aspire to

$100k salary means, you never have to worry about struggling paying for the basic life necessities.
You never have to worry about budgeting for food
You never have to worry about putting aside some "gas money"
You never have to worry about putting aside some rent money to make ends meet
You never have to worry about "pay check to pay check" ways of living...

You could lose your job and that 100k will do you good for a long as fuck time
