One teenager is dead after police said two boys took turns shooting at each other while wearing body armor.
Belleview police said Christopher Leroy Broad Jr., 16, died after he was hit by a bullet while taking turns with Joshua Vining, 17, to shoot at each other while wearing the armored vest on April 3.
Police arrested Vining on Thursday on a charge of aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm.
Investigators said Colton Whitler, 17, who was initially interviewed as a witness to the shooting, misled officials with inaccurate information about what took place and who shot Broad Jr.
Whitler was also arrested Thursday on a charge of providing false information to law enforcement.
Officers said Vining and Whitler are both being charged as adults.

This is why we need better gun laws. These morons should have never had access to this gun, and I'd wager the gun's owner isn't going to face any consequences for inadequately securing it.

Look man, I say this as an owner of multiple guns, if you don't secure your firearms you are a piece of shit. If you park on the street, don't leave your gun in your car. It's irresponsible.

There is a cop that lives in my neighborhood and parks his patrol car in his driveway. In the center console is whatever long gun they are issued (I'm assuming it's an M4). Dude just leaves it in the car in plain view overnight. Granted it's secured via whatever elaborate ass locking system the car has to hold the weapon but I've seen car thieves that can just rip that kind of shit out. It's not that much work man, just take the fucking thing inside at the end of the day and bring it back out in the morning.

I get it, people shouldn't steal shit and you shouldn't have to worry about it, but that's not the world we live in. Just fucking be responsible. That also applies to these 2 idiots. Don't shoot each other for shits and grins while wearing body armor.

Guarantee the parents didn't teach either of them about gun safety.

There's a possibility they bought some cheap shit labeled as "bulletproof" from wherever they could afford it. This vest from Wish barely stops one 9mm round, and these kids were taking turns shooting each other, so if they did buy some cheap shit it's a miracle the first shot didn't go through

So are you completely unfamiliar with the existence of gun safes specifically, or the concept of gun safety as a whole?

One of them probably took it from their parents' gun cabinet, bedroom drawer, wherever.

Gun nuts tend to not secure their guns. I always had access to my step dad's arsenal if I wanted to take something. I could walk in their house at any time and pick up a gun.

Which is why we need better gun laws. Make it like owning a car, renew the license every 4 years or so and force mandatory gun safety training. Add mental health checks every other renewal.
