I think if GRRM was going to have ASoIaF have a similar/the same ending as GoT, it wouldn't have necessarily been bad.

the show was terrible for multiple seasons, and even if it had some good ideas later on, they weren't always executed in the best way.

with better writing, and the multiple plotlines the show ignored, I think people would have appreciated that ending more.
