Especially when drunk. Like I got in a few arguments tonight and I just don't get peoples thought processes.

Got into an argument about Jordan Peterson, people are mad I don't like this dude. They act like any reason to dislike this guy I flawed. I say I don't like him because "he correlates almost every thing he deems evil as an act of godless people and almost always says that evil ideas come from atheist doctrine" and they claim that I "am taking his words out of context" idk, seems pretty cut and dry to me. What is "godly" and "godless" is purely subjective, but saying that something is "atheist doctrine" is describing something in a pretty objective manner imo and you can't just try to walk it back without explaining further.

Then I got into the whole COVID-19 debate. Why should I take a vaccine for a disease that kills "0.0032%" of my age group. I got pre-existing shit my dude, I don't want to spread it. These people always bring up ivermectin and how it works, then get mad when you say "you're mad that the vaccine isn't tested, but then tell people to take ivermectin when that isn't proven to work specifically on COVID-19 either?".

Don't live with regrets, people. You will die one day. The one specific thing that kills you in the long run most likely won't matter.

Arguing online, especially places like this is pointless. There is a guy's video I keep just for this point. People's mind is already made up.

That one's easy: "Because that's still much more likely than I am to suffer any significant consequences from the vaccine." Unless you're allergic to the vaccine in some capacity (which is an excellent reason to not take it), there's really no question about which option is more sensible.

I've really insulted some friends on these topics. At least they can handle it. Not worth arguing when drunk.

I lose my patience and get bored in augments so don't bother doing it much and chances are nobody changes the others mind anyway.

Considering how religion is basically just brought up as a reference point for a common understanding of concepts, yeah that's pretty wrong. He relates good things to Godly traits as that's what's familiar to him (and an awful lot of others), and I don't think he's related anything to being Godless, let alone attributing a doctrine to Godlessness.

That is why I try to avoid arguing. I can't handle conflicts. They are too stressful.

The trick is to find some common ground. Acknowledge that you can see why they believe what they do and that part of it makes sense from their personal experience and perspective. Then just say that from your experiences, you have found something different to be true.

Although I guess that is de-escalation rather than argumentation...

The truest thing. I've lived with a 65 year old conspiracy theorist for two years. We butted heads hard during the first year, but I learned how to be more chill while still expressing how I felt about certain crap he watched (Jimmy Dore, Russell Brand, RT). I never expected it, but he's actually off that stuff. He still watches Sasquatch stuff that I'm pretty merciless with, but I still try to make fun jokes and we get along really well now.

This is the one major thing that I've changed over the past two years. I really thank this old guy I live with for that. I used to start shaking during many in person disagreements and would even have back spasms.
