Because right wing parties in the west are growing more and more radical with each election, slowly stripping rights away and making anyone but the richer suffer more with each passing moment.

Nothing unique to America, we suffer it in other countries as well.

People thinking this is a left/right issue have already been brainwashed, like well trained dogs.

The election in like, 2012 wasn't super important. Obama was kind of boring, but he wasn't ruining anything, while Mitt Romney was also boring and everyone kind of knew what would happen either way. the 2008 election was mostly important because Bush and the republicans were starting to get blowback from all the stuff in the Middle East and Obama came in being a mountain of charisma promising changes (and was also black). If anyone other than Obama ran in 2008, people probably wouldn't have cared much.

But then Trump came along and started actively pushing all the horrible stuff the republicans have kind of been hiding under the rug to the forefront, so now every modern election feels like the fate of democracy hangs in the balance. Especially after the last one where Trump was such a sore loser he tried to cheat to win even after he clearly lost and literally pushed for a coup against the United States.

Because deciding who is guiding policy that affects 350M people is really fucking important? It's really not something that can be overstated

Because the Republicans are actively dismantling democracy and the Democratic solution is to scream about how the Republicans are ruining everything but also how we need a strong Republican party and can't do anything about it.

Trump, if elected, was going to nuke the world and turn it into Mad Max.

Following the events of Jan. 6, the threat of trying to circumvent democracy once and for all may be a reality. But heretofore it has been crying wolf.

People have been saying it for decades. Bad news is the only news that sells so people consume it and think the world is about to tip over the edge. Not to sound too enlightened but the news lies, at the very least by omission. You should always take the news with a grain of salt, question its source and the angle it is being presented at.

Trump wanted to nuke a tornado. And that's not even close to the top 10 dumbest or worst things he did as President.

Bush stole* an election, created tax cuts we're still paying for for no reason, and got us into a forever war.

If Obama hadn't won we still might not have gay marriage. Just think about all the implications of that.

Each presidency usually doesn't have immediate effects, but has decisions that will impact us forever in legal and cultural ways.

A combination of hyping things up high, because otherwise even fewer people will vote and, if you consider climate change, each election comes with just a little less time to get leaders in who will act on it.
