Current Events > Decided to try playing Neverwinter Nights (Enhanced) for the first time.

Haven't played 2 either so it's my first time with these games in general. Got giddy when I saw there was a red dragon prestige class so I'm rolling an elf sorceress. I hear the start is pretty slow but I'm usually fine with slower pacing.

NWN 1 is an absolute fever dream of a game but I enjoyed it.

2 is much better on every front but most people burn out relatively quickly.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer is one of the most well written games of all time.

I've heard so much about the MotB DLC. It'll be pretty tough not going into it with sky high expectations haha.

is that the same as neverwinter the mmo? a friend of mine got me to hop onto it a couple years back. turns out a lot of the relatively few people still playing it were into weird roleplay stuff including my friend >_>

Amazing games in a great setting.

Nope, Neverwinter Nights is similar to games like Baldurs Gate.

I own all these games but i've never finished them because every class i make ends up sucking...

I somehow never finished that lol.

Didn't really like the original campaign of Neverwinter Nights that much even during its time. It's the first iteration of the 'Bioware Formula' so should feel rather familiar (maybe tired) if you've played their other games. The two expansions (Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark) are pretty fun though and I liked them more than the OC.

They're different games but have the same setting. The Neverwinter MMO takes place like 100 years after Neverwinter Nights so they're not connected much in terms of story.

I'm done some light reading on the classes and it sounds like they can get pretty complicated if people want to go hardcore with it. Doing that kind of thing for a first playthrough puts me off so I did a few minutes of reading and just threw myself at sorcerer. Hopefully that doesn't bite me in the ass lol.

Yeah the original campaign is pretty bad. The plotline is very formulaic: get four mcguffins, go to the area's main dungeon to fight the area boss, go the next area & repeat these steps three more times. Plus the dungeons are way too long. Some of them feel like they take around 3 hours & loot tables are terrible in them, so the whole game feels like a slog.

Thankfully, almost every other module improved on it: Smaller , more rewarding dungeons, better plots & characters, ect. Hordes is the appex of the official modules, although many of the unofficial modules such as darkness over daggerford, pirates of the swords coast, king maker, ect are pretty good. It was mainly the original campaign that sucked.

I am not a big fan of casters playing through the campaigns, just because you have to rest so much since they are so combat centric. I like hybrids like Druid & Cleric, since you can cast if you want, but you also are good at meleeing down the normal stuff if need be. Druid is especially fun with all the pets & shapeshifting.
