I can still laugh at all the lunatics who treated it like a relationship. There's so many who are swearing they're going to jump off once Musk makes any policy changes, but a bunch of them are bluffing. They'll stay right where they are...as expected, because they lack the spine to actually cut cold turkey from their favorite echo chambers. Some people will jump ship, many still won't, including certain sectors who interwove Twitter as a resource.

Until the next best thing surpasses it, Twitter is still one of the major playing fields for social, economic, and political commentary between a broad span of age groups. It's very apparent Musk did not simply throw a dart at a board for this decision...

If it ends with Twitter collapsing in on itself within a year or two, I'm honestly fine with that outcome. We need a staple tech giant to be utterly shattered to get some fresh air in this social media ecosystem.

I don't see a situation where it makes Twitter anything but worse, while at the same time I don't imagine that there will be a big enough exodus to actually hurt the platform. So the worst of both worlds.

Twitter is at the end of the day a tool. Yes it does enable a lot of shit, but it can and has also lead to its fair share of good. It's one of those things that you get what you want out of it. So in that sense Twitter is likely going to become a tool that is easier to do bad shit with while offering no benefit to do good shit with and so that's an overall bad thing.

I don't use Twitter at all other than Wario64 deals. Most likely not much will change, but I don't really trust Elon to not do even more stupid Twitter shit. Him owning anything more is not a good thing, anyway.

I don't use Twitter. I only have an account to link to apps that require it or for RT sweepstakes. As for whether I'm happy or not that depends on what happens later.

Twitter is by far the worst social media platform in terms of spreading bad information and disseminating hate. They point fingers at Trump's banned account and are like "look see we're doing good" meanwhile in other languages & countries you've got open full Nazi conversations that you wouldn't see anywhere in English except on a place like SF.

remember the good ol' days where people would go to social media to ask "what color is this dress" or ask "laurel or yanny?"

Social media providing platforms for bad actors is exactly why we find ourselves in the hellscape that is our current political state.

Like, the concern has nothing to do with whether the platform will be enjoyable to use. The concern is that providing a platform to fascists who will generate the most inflammatory narrative possible to rev up their base into a fevor might continue to make things in society worse.

Like, the effect of social media cannot be untangled from the tangible threats to the LGBT community that have recently been successfully carried out. From the continued chipping away at our educational system. Etc.

I don't really give a shit if he owns it or not, but its baffling to me that he'll waste an absurd amount of money on twitter when things like world hunger, that water debacle on Flint is still going on, etc etc
