Japanese, because 1) it's much more difficult and time-intensive to learn Japanese than Spanish as a native English speaker (the kanji by themselves take forever to learn) and 2) I already have a decent grasp on Spanish, to the point where I think I could get by indefinitely in a Spanish-speaking country if I needed to.

I gotta think about this. I voted Spanish first but...

Japanese is harder to master and it opens up a lot of media I'm interested in like manga, anime, movies etc and visiting Japan was awesome.

Spanish of course has more utility, and is easier to master if you spend some time on it.

Nobody speaks japanese outside of japan but id still like to know it. Just isnt very useful and uses a different alphabet so a lot harder. But 1 country compared to 22 spanish much better option.
Then again i just thought of nobody speaks chinese outside of china so maybe thats bad logic.

This is a tough one. On the one hand, it'd be great to learn Japanese for the purpose of video games. On the other hand, I could finally understand my sister when she speaks Spanish to troll me, and also use it against her somehow.

Spanish.

I appreciate the contributions Japanese culture has made to stuff I'm interested in, but I have no interest in learning the Japanese language at all.

I'd be interested in visiting Spain, Central, and South America in the future, though.

I also live in California, so there are a lot of Spanish speakers around where I live.

As someone who would pick Japanese as well, this is a stupid take. Spanish is way more versatile than Japanese. However, considering how difficult it is to learn Japanese, it can really add to your resume, especially in the business world.

Up until recently I'd have said Spanish, despite the fact that I'd find Spanish much easier to learn than Japanese.

However, recent events mean that spending more time in Japan than Spanish-speaking countries is quite likely so I'd go for that now.
