The United States is out of the Covid-19 pandemic phase, said Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Joe Bidens chief medical adviser and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

We are certainly, right now, in this country, out of the pandemic phase, Fauci said on PBS NewsHour Tuesday.

Namely, we dont have 900,000 new infections a day and tens and tens and tens of thousands of hospitalizations and thousands of deaths. We are at a low level right now. So, if youre saying are we out of the pandemic phase in this country? We are, he said.

I really hope we don't see another spike, but I'm not confident in that just yet.

Until July, when it inevitably starts spiking again. We've been through this same song and dance twice before now.

Typically when the medical community admits that they failed in their messaging during the pandemic, my nature response is 'c'mon guys, don't beat yourselves up, you did the best you could against the right-wing misinformation machine.'

Then something like this happens and I have to say 'welp, yeah, ya dun goofed.' The mixed messaging is arguably worse than saying nothing.

Yeah... I'm thinking (hoping) he's basing the statement purely off of the low hospitalizations and deaths we're seeing at the moment... But... What we've seen with all of the previous spikes is that hospitalizations and deaths lag behind the new cases.

New cases spike ----> hospitalizations spike ----> deaths spike

So I'm just skeptical about the idea that we're "out of the pandemic phase" just because hospitalizations and deaths are low when cases just recently started spiking

At least in Missouri, our cases have been insanely low for a couple of months in a row, now. I'd really love it if we didn't get another massive spike. I've been enjoying the lack of worry lol

Pretty much how I feel about it as well. It's always telling when certain types believe that just because you generally support a public figure or institution, you're obliged to blindly agree with everything they say, and never be critical of them when you believe they've taken a misstep.

He kind of made up his own definition of pandemic there, but whatever. By his definition we can go right back in. He basically uses it like you would use the term recession.

I'm not really in a position to do a lot of research on it, and I trust the left wing view of it here when it comes to facts

My understanding is that it is just as contagious as Om, if not more so, but similar in its lowered severity.

You can't call it the pandemic phase when you're making it endemic.

I've basically stopped caring. I tried to do my part, but everybody else makes it so difficult to do it. So, let us all catch it and weed out the weak, I guess. Capitalism, baby.

Just to be clear, I don't disagree with any of this. I personally don't think this spike will be too bad in terms of severity, but I DO worry about future mutations.

This is the part that scares me. Pretty sure I had a mild case in January.

I'm more worried about the death part

the doomers conveniently ignore that deaths and hospitalizations arent tracking with cases the way they were earlier in the pandemic

so you see these articles like cases in Sweden are exploding!! But no followup when the deaths and hospitalizations dont explode in the same way

i think most people are just treating it like any other illness you can get, a consequence of leaving the house, so to speak

Thanks. They're at the end of their lives (though I really hope my mom has a few left in her) so long lasting effects aren't as big a concern as death itself

Or hell I may be looking at it wrong idk. But they've all already got a combination of different organs not working properly already
