I used to use my NordVPN to change my location so I can watch Laker/Clipper games on the NBA/TNT app during the reg season. However, the last couple months of the season, each app would not let me watch (anything) while using a VPN.

Is there a workaround to this?

Basically when you use a VPN it shows their ip instead of yours. If you use a proxy than it just shows you being on a different network in a different place.

When I had amazon prime I tried using a vpn with the location being in the states in order to see if I could watch any of the prime shows, however Amazon knew that I was using a vpn and that I wasn't anywhere near the states so it didn't let me watch any show.

How did they know?

Anyway suffice to say I'd long since canceled prime after the free trial was up

Sucks they are cracking down on VPNs. Reminds me of cracking down on ad-blockers. Corporations are determined to ruin the internet.

Huh so that means other companies like hulu or netflix or whomever can do the same thing can't they. And yet... with a vpn those guys let you watch usa media content. So that would mean... they're just being assholes about region locking, just like the DVD days.

Not a big deal I can always sail the 7 seas but they actually lose money by being like that with region locking...

This is usually not financially advantageous to do it so they avoid doing it for as long as legally possible. Not only does it cost money to do but they will lose subscribers who were only interested in watching certain foreign shows.
