say the book comes out and it follows the later seasons of the shows trajectory do you think everyone just stops caring? I already am feeling pretty apathetic over it and I was a fan from years before the show was even a thing.

depends how its done, I dont really mind the general idea of where everyone ended up, just how they got there and depicted them getting there.

for instance, if Dany slaughtered a bunch of innocents trying to kill Cersei, with her actually killing Cersei once she caught her, I would have been fine with Dany as a whole.

But I mean the last book ends with Varys killing Kevan because he was too competent and was ruining their plans for (F)aegon. so like, if hes really worried about the shows ending, go hard on real or fake Aegon cause either one adds in a huge dimension that could be interesting for the endgame.

mainly just dont make the whitewalker threat be stoped by super Aryas sneak attack lol. Most the endgame positions were fine for what they were, its just the show runners did an absolute shit job executing anything from S6 onwards outside a few select scenes.

well its not like they can force him to write it, and hes not struggling for money so he doesnt have that motivation. They could drop him but if he actually does finish the book hed have no trouble finding a new publisher

Debating if I even want to read this when/if it comes out. I sure as hell aren't re-reading the first five books - I'd probably have to watch a recap on youtube or something to remember where every character is and who's alive/dead. But to not even know if the final book will ever be released before he dies might make reading WoW a waste of time.

I'm not currently in the know enough to be a fan nor hoping for his death. All I was saying is that I'd need it to be quite clear more books were going to come out or for them to already be out ideally for me to consider starting reading it right now.

I think the hype of the book + the hype of the show + the disappointment of the shows ending will make this a big deal for at least two weeks, if it ever does come out

Most people believe he will eventually complete Winds, it is the series that pretty much no one has faith in him finishing.

Also, the books are completely different than the show. Fucking Book Euron is a sorcerer who is trying to enact some lovecraftian blood ritual to become a god. We are talking completely different threats and characters here.

I'm hoping that (assuming it ever gets released) WoW will end up being A Storm of Swords 2.0 in which a ton of plotlines left hanging in the previous two books come to a head. I don't expect A Dream of Spring to have a satisfying overall conclusion even if it ever sees the light of day (tbh it was pretty clear about halfway through book 2 that the series was never going to have a happy ending); but I think WoW can still deliver on a large amount of characters getting their just desserts, just like ASoS did.
