And yeah that's the main reason I am going AST, I am a Scholar(/Sage) and I am just used to the more oGCD-based nature, White Mage does not come as naturally to me even if it is "easier", plus AST has a mitigation bubble which I'm also used to.

ShB Minor Arcana was perfect, and I have no idea why they felt the need to change it.

I think the best thing about ShB Minor Arcana was that it turned any undesirable card into a useful one no matter the situation. I think AST will need a mechanic like that again before considering cards with unique effects like the old days, so that you're never stuck with a bad card.

I'm tempted to make a tier list of Jobs based on whether or not any of the job design team members play them. Dark Knight is definitely going in bottom tier lmao
(Though to the team's merit, the 6.1 changes to DRK were fantastic and a step in the right direction)

Yeah, Ealad's straightforward to catch after accounting for its minuscule uptime, at least. I was trapped in the Tempest for over 24 hours this weekend on a failed attempt to get lancet, which is super frustrating.

... So how do I get geared up for Savage raids without having to sell my kidneys to afford crafted gear on the market board?

I guess 590 gear with astronomy to get started thren get upgraded with normal raid gear and causality tomes. And maaaybe you'll reach 600 to do the EX and get a weapon.

I did EX1 and EX2 for the first time last night. EX1 was pretty easy and I got my clear on our first run. EX2 was significantly trickier, and it came down to the very last pull to get the clear.

I also did EX3. We got to see every mechanic, but it was getting late, so people logged off. Hoping to do it again tonight after doing my Abyssos Normal lockouts.

Ugh, my PS5 stopped turning on. Hopefully it's something they'll fix via warranty since it's been less than a year since I got it (they're sending me a box to ship it in), but I had to go back to playing on my PS4 and all my hotbars are screwed up. I don't really want to take the time to fix them either since I'm intending to return to using the PS5 once it's up and running again, but I'm in the middle of crafter leveling so I might not have a choice.

Let ASTs start out with three seals for Divination when they load into a duty, like how Sage starts with max Addersgall and Paladin starts with full Oath Gauge.

that idea, on paper, would make them the same as most other jobs, and work mechanically

but thematically i think it's a bit odd, and SE does care about the job fantasy in cases like that. it's weird if you just have cards without drawing them. drawing a card is part of the whole fortune telling thing. you don't go see a fortune teller and there's 3 cards already on the table.

edit: oh just the seals? ...eh that's also weird. you get seals by playing cards. but i mean, sure, maybe. it wouldn't feel right. starting with stacks of a resource like addersgall or a gauge makes sense. having seals would still "feel" odd.

You have eight buttons:

- Single target (Ruin)
- AoE (Outburst)
- Lego charge button (Aethercharge)
- Three Lego buttons (Carbuncles)
- Single target Lego attack (Gemshine)
- AoE Lego attack (Precious Brilliance)

Basically, Aethercharge -> regular spam -> summon Lego -> Lego attack spam -> repeat until you use all Legos

... Oh, and I guess fit Energy Drain/Siphon in there, too

How hard was it compared to final raids in other patches?

I heard that the DPS check was so tight that you absolutely needed DRK and GNB as tanks.

Multiple known WAR mains swapped to GNB/DRK to meet the check.

Week 1 it was extraordinarily tight. You didn't need DRK/GNB, but it was very likely you needed to swap something around unless you were already running a meta comp - my group was WAR/DRK/SCH/AST/SAM/BLM/RDM/DNC until 8, and the first phase DPS check forced our RDM to swap to MNK. After that it was smooth sailing.

It is a hopeful sign that SE buffed WAR and PLD, but it's also frustrating that RDM, MCH, and to a lesser extent SMN were all completely untouched when they all need help as well. Easing the DPS requirement on one fight can only go so far - it doesn't change the underlying fact that job balance is the worst it's been in a while. (Granting the premises that a) if you aren't looking to clear the tier week 1 balance doesn't really matter to you, and b) a good 95% of the playerbase is not at a skill level where balance is truly relevant to their results - as Squeenix themselves once said, job effectiveness will vary based on player skill.)

Ah that's a bummer; I'm a RDM main myself, and it does seem harder for me to top the threat meter than it did in ShB (though I'm sure some of it is that I don't have the optimized rotation down as well). I didn't know that it was undertuned, though.

it was very tight. my group had multiple <1% enrages and the only thing that really changed between that and the clear was getting a lucky run with more crits. our WAR switched to DRK for the final fight but our PLD stayed PLD. BRD switched to DNC as well - DNC isn't technically above BRD by that much in a vacuum, but the value of dance partnering the one melee with an augmented tomestone weapon was too good.

Finally spending some time beefing up my squadrons. Pretty close to reaching that captain promotion I think?

That did not age well. I... actually kinda dislike the Crown Play change. If I'm holding on to Lord for damage buffs or holding on to Lady for heals, I can't see the cooldown ticking for Minor Arcana since Crown Play now replaces that spot.

But I mean... if they can get the cooldown timer to still show up while Crown Play is active, that'd be super nice.
