Videos start with closed caption and autoplay turned on by default.

If you hover over a thumbnail on the main page it start a preview of the video, but then if you click on it the video starts where the preview left off and you miss that much of the audio.

If you lost interest in a video and leave the page a smaller player opens to continue the video you weren't watching.

The new vertical format videos that loop endlessly, don't let you control the volume, don't show the progress bar, then if you scroll down the page there's are more unrelated videos that start on their own and have the same issues.

Those life hack videos where one thing is shown in the thumbnail but that thing isn't in the video itself. Why should I fill my socks with water before I go to bed? Why?

Those 17 cool gadget videos that are 10 minutes long when I would be happy with a 30 second clip showing what just the thing in the thumbnail does.

Content creators that say 80% of their viewers aren't subscribed. Maybe those viewers don't have an account.

Content creators who upload a video that is suppose to be about one subject but half the viewing time spent talking about random stuff that they draw no connect to.

Karma videos that are missing the context and I think "you know, that person they're making fun of might have a valid point".

Someone who has nothing to do with any of the content in the video can claim "copyright" and YouTube just bends over and takes it.

Turns out to be a video about how most of the ocean is unexplored and what could be found, but nothing about what has been found.

Similarly there were a bunch of James Webb telescope discovery videos when it will still undergo months of calibrations before it will start to be put to use.

no proper mechanism to show which videos you've watched. you have to rely on liking videos or maybe on the red bar, except the red bar changes if you rewind the video.

if a video in one of your lists is deleted it doesn't tell you what it was

removing dislikes (though for now there's an extension for it)

silently deleting comments... there's lots of things you can do to have your comment silently deleted or maybe held in some cases. the ones I know of are: swearing, posting a link, editing too many times too quickly

that "next track" button is useless except for accidentally hitting it and leaving the video your on to watch some random video you aren't interested in

also, previewing a video that way counts as watching it; it puts it in your view history and marks it with the red bar

This one is pretty irritating

They butchered customization to favor the mobile app supposedly in 2012-2013 I cant remember exactly when but it sucked

I can't see how many times I've listened to My R.

The recommendations. I frequently get recommended videos in different languages, Minecraft videos, sports and so on, things I've never shown any interest in or ever searched for on YouTube, Google or anywhere else.

I also hate the spoiler filled thumbnails for new movies recommended. Just got one today for Dr Strange that looked like it spoiled the death of a character. Luckily I realized what it was before really taking in the picture so wasn't spoiled but it just came out yesterday. Can I get a few days to see the film before spoiling everything, please?

Youtube is strongly against putting things in order of oldest to newest. Comments, sort by Top Rated or Newest. I can't see them in chronological order. I hear about an unfiction series and want to watch the playlist. My options are reverse upload order (so I'm seeing the story backward) or completely random order.

I use to watch creepy pasta narration videos. The reason I stopped is that the narrators would do multi-part stories but wouldn't title the videos as such. So I think a video is a self contained creepy pasta. But after hearing it the characters were poorly introduced and nothing really happened. Because I only heard part 5 of 12.

1) Getting rid of the "Dislike" counter.
2) Overly long ads.

When I accidentally hit a random suggested video in the middle of a video, hit back and have to watch another ad for some reason

This, but also every video starts at max volume for some reason. How is it that youtube can't remember this stuff? Most of the time it doesn't even remember where I left off on a video anymore.

This is youtube trying to be tiktok. A bunch of creators think they have to partake in order to stay relevant.

ads for videos that are super short.

The Windows 11 clock doesn't include seconds.

A video has text so I pause it to have more time to read. But because I paused it a bar pops up showing more videos and obscuring the text I want to read.

At the end of a video there are 2 recommended videos. These cover up the last 15 seconds of the video. So if there's more content in that 15 seconds I can't see it.

These are more for the Android app than the website, but still:

No voice commands (even a simple "OK Google - skip ad" would be sufficient)

When I choose to randomize a playlist after choosing a video that's 200+ entries in, it has a tendency to start on a different video than I chose
