What to expect?

Well, for one thing they're gonna stick something up your bum

Seriously though, I've had two colonoscopies, and both times the laxative prep is the worst part of it.

Just maybe take some adult diapers to wear after they've done it, in case they don't adequately deflate your bottom after they're finished. The first time, they didn't bother to remove all the air once they were done. That, and the pico prep meant I had a few explosive shart moments. All close calls, thankfully.

Not my finest hour.

Yes, the prep is the worst part. The actual procedure isn't bad at all since they put you under. I agree with taking the rest of the day off too.

I was asleep the whole time (I think it was like 10-20 minutes) so I felt nothing. And after that I was perfectly fine for the rest of the day.

I agree with everyone else that the prep is the worst part. You have to eat/drink very spesific stuff to clear you out. And at least for me the laxative tasted awful.

Yeah I took the rest of the day off, and Im scheduling it on a Friday so I have the weekend to recover. Really cant afford to miss more work.

But yeah Ive heard the fasting and prep suck ass. Gotta take 3 different laxatives in like a 7 hour window I think

Ive heard there are powders you can mix with the prep, to help get it down. Like a Gatorade mix in or something.

I kinda decided I'm just not gonna do that. If I die, I die.

Im sure there will be a bit more pain after, if they end up taking a biopsy

Yeah, there are things you can do to make it taste better. By the end I was sick from not eating anything except popsicles, though, so I couldn't keep that nasty stuff down. They made me do an enema to clear me out the rest of the way.

Yeah Im really not looking forward to the fasting.

fasting alone can be painful and makes me nauseated.

so Ill probably try eating jello, broth etc.

Technically yes, but the guy up my ass was not an actual doctor. He just liked to roleplay as one.
I appreciated his thoughtful bedside manner. He always made sure his equipment was warm.

On the upside, I have a bathroom in the master bedroom. So if I have any episodes in the middle of the night, Ill be like 3ft from the toilet.

My prep was a powder mixed with Gatorade. Had to drink 8 oz of it every 15 minutes until it was gone.

When you clear out, its pure liquid (imagine peeing out your butthole) but I experienced none of the nausea or cramping normally associated with diarrhea.

The procedure itself was nothing and I was lucid and fine by the time I got into the car

No, lol.

Just take the prep and make sure your bowel movements are clear by morning time.

Take the rest of the day off for sure and make sure you have someone to drive you home. Even though you might feel okay when the sedation wears off, it can still be in your system and effect you. The same way you can have a few drinks and feel fine, but you still shouldn't drive.

Yeah they already told me Ill need transportation. Pretty standard when being sedated from what I can tell.

the sedation part doesnt bother me. I actually enjoy seeing how long I can last before everything goes black lol

Not for me. Its not like theyre having their arm up your ass. Its a very small camera on a thin lead.

The scope is about 1cm in diameter with a rubbery coat. It'll be lubed up like crazy though.

I've had two and the worst part for me was not being able to really eat the day before. The procedure itself is nothing, as you're asleep. As for going to the bathroom tons, I have IBS so I'm kinda used to that.

Its not that bad. As everyone has said, the worst part is the day before with all the prepping and it was mostly the hunger from fasting. Pretty sure you could get by drinking protein shakes till the afternoon or so.

When I was 18. A day of constantly needing to use the bathroom and not being allowed to eat. Then the day off I wasn't supposed to remember the procedure but I have distinct memories of them taking pieces of my intestines for testing and I remember exactly what it felt like. I remember watching the screen. I dozed on and off throughout.

yeah I remember waking up during oral surgery a couple times, and instantly falling back asleep. Its like seeing a picture almost

Da lemon lime gatorade right after is da best part, it taste soooo good

Lemon Lime or Cool Blue are easily the best choices tbh

If you use Gatorade pre-procedure, do not use anything red

Drink it with Gatorade or Pedialyte to avoid dehydration from all the liquid shitting.

Theres a doctor in my home AA group and he absolutely hates Thursday because of the back to back colonoscopies, which makes me laugh for some reason.

Yeah Ive had to keep the Gatorade stocked since Ive been plagued with diarrhea for like a month lol
