Stuff like Wal-Mart products need to keep the product cheap, so instead of increasing the cost (where people will just go to a better place if the prices are more competitive) so they cut corners on quality instead. Stuff like TVs having shorter cables and fewer ports or advertising 4k when its 1080 or 1440p cheaply upscaled.

If Walmart TVs cost as much as Best Buy TVs, nobody would buy their TV at Walmart.

Money.

The other two accomplish the same thing.

Actively changing how your product tastes and/or feels is like the easiest way to drive customers to other brands.

I mean yeah obviously planned obsolescence and shit is out there but I should have specified this was more for companies making food products >_>

Wholly Guacamole legitimately changed their guacamole mixes from "2% or less of water" to nearly 40% just in the last month. For all intents and purposes they're now essentially selling a completely different product under the same name.

I mean I don't consume either of those so I can't speak to them directly taste-wise, but that's two products where there aren't any true "alternatives" (unless you consider a store's generic coke knock-off an "alternative" but I know most people never would).

And yet it works for the big name brands. Or they just shrink the size and most people wont even notice.
