I think we all have symptoms but we don't all have enough to make it stop us from living life 99% of the time. Most of us can just work around certain ADD behavior when they're not overwhelming. But for some, they're an intense version that are much harder to work around.

I dunno if this is true or something Im making up on the spot tho. I can't really seperate remembering something and theorizing something anymore. It's just all mashed together

I remember there was a big push in public schools to get all kids diagnosed for ADD/ADHD around 2000. If a kid was struggling in class: "uh oh they must have ADD". Kid showed emotional problems: ADD. Kid was socially awkward or became a bully: ADD. Kid breathing with a pulse: ADD. Yeah there were cases that were legit, but not like over 50% of every classroom.

Some parents even saw push for testing for ADD as a convenient opportunity to brush off their piss poor parenting and child's failure under the guise of a trending clinical condition branded as needing medication. And of course pharmaceutical companies were happy to accommodate for a price.

For people who actually have a legitimate condition, you have my sympathies. That being said, the condition was still ridiculously overdiagnosed around the turn of the century. And I'm sure plenty of people living with the legit condition figured this out too...

I have a family history of ADD from my mom's side. I didn't get diagnosed until like 7 months ago and got treatment before I left my last job. Adderall really does help with focusing, memory retention and executive skills. Having ADD can definitely affect your work performance, school and personal relationships.

Everyone does have varying degrees of it and many don't need medication (my siblings for example) if it's mild. I do think your add symptoms can be worse if you rely too much on electronic media. Being on a computer screen all day or your phone or video games can make it harder for you to focus on everyone else. Not to mention being introverted and not being too sociable.

I don't take two 10mg pills a day that psychiatrists usually start people lot with, I take one, and sometimes not even on the weekends. I don't want to be dependant on it too much and increase dosage and crash/have withdrawals when I don't take it. One day without ADD though on the weekends.. I don't know what it is but it makes me feel lazy and unfocused as hell.

I'll never forget my first experience with it. The first day and the first couple of days... It was mind blowing. I had laser like focus and alertiness and motivation to get shit done. It's too bad that wears off quickly unless you increase dosage, which I don't want to. It's a controlled substance for a reason.

Always wanted to get a prescription when I was an adult but have never bothered.

I wish I had gotten diagnosed properly when I was younger. Got to a point where I needed to force fight or flight adrenaline just to fucking put a sandwich together. Doing much better now though.

Are people who actually have ADHD as prone to addiction to the medication as people who aren't? Or does it effect them different enough that it's not something you wanna get high off?

yes?

There are people who don't have it and use it for performance enhancers. It's a controlled substance for a reason. People can get addicted for being too dependant on it for whatever reaosn. And there are withdrawal symptoms if you take it for a while and stoo.

I should of been more specific. I meant completely mental stuff. I understand physical withdrawal from medication from experience. But the ADHD meds were always a pure mental addiction. Use to be, someone would mention them and it would literally bring down my overall enjoyment of the day if I didn't end up getting them after them being on my mind. Not anymore thankfully.

I struggled through school and work and even parts of life. A couple years ago I was diagnosed and started Adderall. My life changed completely.

My parents were the type that didn't buy into any of that stuff and said I was just lazy. Makes me wonder where I would be now if it was treated when I was a kid.

I always heard they do affect people differently, but as to the aspect you are referring to I think its pretty much bs

It felt the same to me when I bought them in college to study for exams as you say, I started looking forward to exams as I would buy extra and then play games literally all the next day if I could pull it off.

Also talked to quite a few people you can freaking tell have adhd and they say the same.

I do, and its pretty awful. I only took meds when I was in elementary and middle school, I stopped halfway through high school because I didnt like how they made me feel, and I was struggling with feelings of depression from being different and not feeling like I fit in. I recently re-started meds because I had the realization that almost all of the problems I had been having in my relationships, in my professional life, in my mental health all stemmed from my ADHD being untreated and out of control.

Im still in the process of trying to learn to rebuild and restructure my life in a way that I dont always feel like Im juggling too many plates at once and everything is about to collapse, but I feel like I can get there eventually.
