Probably one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to consider. Buchanan more or less directly caused the Civil War both through an unwillingness to mend political fences and, by most accounts, deliberately validating the South's irrationality at a time where it was the most dangerous to do so. Yet fascinatingly, I would argue that Trump basically did the exact same thing.

Also Truman and Eisenhower kicked ass

Reagan is worse than both. If Nixon started the downfall of America, Reagan floored the accelerator with it. Without Reagan, we wouldn't have Trump. Almost every horrible and corrupt thing that goes on in politics can be traced back to Ronald Reagan.

Well without the civil war we'd just have a reasonable amount of slavery as lincolns priority was keeping the states together so i'd argue the civil war and its consequences were a delight for the human race

Buchanan would have to be worse just cause an actual civil war came out of it, no? I guess trump could have some butterfly effect thing going where there might be an even worse war but i doubt it

The Civil War didn't end slavery in America. World War II did.

Viewed through the lens of modern history you can make that argument, but I think if you look at the political circumstances pre-Civil War, it's hard not to argue that they weren't considerably more dire than even today.

The South didn't even claim that Lincoln won a rigged election - they straight up complained that they weren't allowed to choose their own president. Although neither is a reasonable or rational claim, I feel like the latter implies a deeper level of implied independence.

That is neo-slavery, which is slavery in all but name. I'm talking about legit "black person working on a plantation with no rights." In realistic terms you are correct that slavery never ended under anything but technicality.
